Just bought a new tv which is fine until I try to watch a video through it. The picture is very green and no amount of altering the settings improves it. Any suggestions?

Broadband TV ??0

No, just a straight forward tv.0

What are you playing the video from, and how is the video device connected to the TV?0

The video player is a sony probably about 8 years old and is connected by a scart lead. (I wonder if the scart lead may be a problem, although it was all working perfectly with the previous tv)0

Some TVs don't like RGB signals so check that the VCR is set to send PAL.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Why not take it back and get a new one?0

I've had similar with a poor scart connection. Try swopping the ends.
As above, check the output of the video is set to match the tv input. This may involve the tv and video manual.0 -
Are people still using VCRs? Can VHS tape still be purchased?0

People have large collections of VHS tape, much of which is not available in other formats. I've got over 200 VHS tapes of music programming alone, a lot of which will never see a repeat on a BBC4 documentary/retro programme, and some of which was sourced from European broadcasts which, again, won't ever get shown over here.
Unless this is transferred to other media, people still want or need to use VHS players to play this stuff back.
Availability or not of new VHS tape is another issue entirely.0 -
Since most people will have long since chucked their VHS collection along with their VCRs, I think the time is coming when new TVs won't support VHS playback any longer.Unless this is transferred to other media, people still want or need to use VHS players to play this stuff back.0
