with regards to the car issue ...
the fact that they have this arrangement, suggests a financial link ( sharing car and insurance).
this would go a fair way in suggesting to the DWP that they are a couple and have been from the day that this arrangement started

Because although we were giving our relationship another shot I did not know if he would make the steps I needed him to make (growing up and taking responsibility for his actions) I did not want him moving into my home until I knew he would be a responsible parent. My children mean the world to me and I did not want him moving in on a happy whim to then move out again if the relationship failed

Ultimately, to avoid the risk of him coming back into your life before you were sure he'd changed, you took a risk with claiming benefits as a single parent when it could be seen in many ways that you were already living as a couple.

A common theme with such threads seems to be that the posters believes that it is their views on their arrangement with their ex that should decide whether they are single or not from a benefit perspective rather than seeing the other way, that it is the benefit agencies that makes that decision when it comes to claiming, even if the couple themselves don't consider themselves a couple.

Hi everyone i thought i would come back and update everyone on my thread topic. I have been for my interview and explained all my circumstances and took my own evidence and solicitor with me. They did have photos of myself and some other information but I was able to explain everything including the evidence they had. Thankfully I have been in touch with them and they have decided not to take the case any further and have closed my file. Would just like to say a thank you to those of you who answered my questions and both the positive and negative comments has been a very difficult time on my family but I think we are out the other side. Good news.

Now, you need to have a think about the car insurance. Who is the main driver?

If a claimant has nothing to hide, then it is always easier to just go there and clarify it.

Good that they understood the situation. Taking a solicitor along is always a good idea, as it seems to concentrate the minds.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)
