Try emptying it and see if it changes at all?
We empty ours very very rarely, and little Henry just keeps on going!0 -
Having had a george many years ago now, we used to empty the bag rarely, but normally when full it will be firm to touch and noise from hoover will change. Yours looks far from full. They are a lovely little vaccum & if you keep filter clean will last for years & years.0

No, you don't need to change the bag yet by the looks of it. You will notice a loss of suction power when the bag needs changing...0

The bag is a vessel and a filter - either or both properties being used up mean it's time to change it.
So, physically full (70% or more) means times to change it. Don't aim to fill it to solid, that's going to strain the motor.
A bag is also exhausted when the tiny holes in the paper/fabric are blocked. This depends as much on the size of the dust as the volume of it. Half empty bags can be very blocked up, or good to use some more, depending on contents. If you've been cleaning up plaster dust for example the bag may not last long.
Either way, when one or both properties are nearing used up, you'll notice the suction drop during use, and that's the time to change it.0 -
It looks like a cloth bag you have, so you can empty it at any time. If you empty it regularly, there is less chance of it giving off any smells. If it is full, then suction is affected and noise will change.
Keep it away from the cat at the moment, or he will be in hiding for weeks ! Ours scarpers when we hoover. Mums old cat used to sit on the thing while you pushed it around ! Think she liked the vibration.0 -
You can get zip up Henry bags which you can open up and see how full they are and empty them when you want.
The thing which annoys me about bag cleaners is that things often get sucked up which I don't want to lose and with a sealed bag it's a right nuisance getting stuff back.
However dealing with dust when emptying a zip bag is also not ideal as I am allergic to house dust...... & housework/cleaning. lol
Therefore unfortunately there is no perfect solution. Either be more careful and not suck things up or deal with the dust emptying a zip bag.
I did try unsticking the glue sealing the end of the bag and then using my Grans old upright vacuum metal clip to re-seal the bag. It sort of worked but did lose some suction due to the clip not sealing very well.0 -
Thanks everyone, another daft question answered!!0

Henrys can be used without a bag. I have had mine for over 15 years and the last bag was 10 years ago. Just upturn it into the dustbin and carry on.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0
