The quickest way is possibly to add your name to the gas/electric and get them to send out a statement.

None of the banks I work with would accept a bank statement from January as the criteria is that all proof of address must be dated within the last 90 days.

It's not the fact that it's over 90 days they just wont accept bank statements. Which I really don't get.

We would add my name to gas and elec but we've just switched to another provider and they won't send a statement out yet. I don't think our old provider will add me just for the final bill.

Will new provider not add you to the account and send out a welcome letter?

and sorry I edited my previous post to include water, who are normally "easy" to deal with as long as they are getting paid.

We spoke to the new provider and they said that was an option but we're not sure if that would be enough?

yes, water is a possibility, thanks

The welcome letter from the new provider should be enough, but you would have to clarify this with Sainsbury...

Good luck! If you get added to Council Tax, then you might be able to access the account online (I am able to access my invoice/statement online).

With the water, you might be able to register here http://www.mybillsonline.co.uk/ and access your bills online

It's actually not a good idea to have your name put on any account that it isn't already on. In so doing, you could just be making it easier for your husband's creditors to assume joint liability. If you think that's not a problem, it's worth bearing in mind that mistakes can happen; creditors have been known to chase the wrong people.

I wouldn't recommend this site. It's putting all your eggs in one basket, from the data protection point of view (note how they require your DoB).

A creditor cannot simply assume joint liability. A creditor can only assume joint liability on an account that is jointly held. Being added to a utility bill (gas, water, electricity or council tax) which currently do not report to CRA's (there are rumours they may in the future start reporting to CRA's), there is currently no risk beyond that specific utility bill of being financially linked...

So put your name on the bill and you're not in any way liable should the original party default? Em .....
