Can you recommend some nice books to read?

I wonder if you lovely people could recommend some books for me to read?
I have a week coming up where there is the possibility for me to read a few books without interruptions.
With two primary school children I have found my attention does not hold for too long with all the distractions around me.
I am into Santa Montefiore, Erica James etc, just gentle reads.
Can anyone recommend a good book for me?
Many thanks

hi
"firefly lane girls" to start you off. i'll go through my back catalogue on my home computer later and give you a couple more to try. if you have an e-reader (kindle, nook etc) i may well be able to email them over to you to add to it.

I have just come back from my honeymoon and read an amazing book called 'The Goldfinch' by Donna Tarte. It is about 800 pages long but I cant even tell you how worth it it is. I used to read a lot but I have a toddler now so dont read as much but just had a week without the baby - it was bliss and I'm not even sorry! ;-)
Yes definitely that one.0 -
Donna Tarte is great - try The Secret History too.0

Try Victoria Hislop - The Island. I think its a beautiful story. Or Kate Morton The Forgotten Garden, or The House at Riverton.0

If you like call the midwife try Donna Douglas. She wrote a set of books set around the Nightingale hospital, I really enjoyed them and there is another due out in November.0

The girl with the dragon tattoo trilogy.
First book hard going for about a quarter of the book, then you're away & you won't be able to put the books down & will want to watch the films too.0 -
The Book Thief. Everyone I know who has read it has loved it.0

Tuesdays With Morrie.
Simply the most beautiful, positive and life affirming book I have ever read.0 -
Ruth Hamilton's books are good and can be funny - all based around Liverpool.
Mum has suggested that I read Maeve Binchy, I had always steered clear of her books but was pleasantly surprised when I started to read them. They are gentle books to read.0 -

Jean Auel did a series based in prehistoric communities which I really enjoyed.
Barbara Pym is perhaps a bit dated, but enjoyable.
Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day is fantastic!Signature removed for peace of mind0
