Percy buys his blank DVD's for 2p and sells them for £20. Is that immoral also?

:rotfl:why not jump in, just sell at £19 and put me out of business?

ps, I don't buy at 2p and sell at £20...

Quick question, if somebody puts time and effort carving something in in a piece of wood is it them immoral to sell it for more than the cost of the original piece of wood?

Either say yes and explain how or say no and admit thats another one to me. (would that then be 2 - 0 to me)

Or of course you can just go on a different tangent to try and bring me down and pretend this never happened (in short the usual), good luck. ;)

    Back to it,

I agree the problem is there isn't enough houses, I agree there needs to be more built.

As said its a chicken and egg, more need to rent because there is more rental properties, more rental properties are needed so more need to rent.

Yes more need to be built, but in the meantime should such a vicious circle be allowed to continue.

This is the balance I mention, if there was less being bought to rent there would be more oo's, but as mentioned at times the potential oo's are being outbid by LL's.

As said this will just go in circles, those involved either are blind to the moral hazards or they just don't care, either way they aren't going to stop, as I say you can't stop greed.

given we have a housing shortage, it is reasonable to assume that rented properties have a higher occupancy of people that OO.

i.e. a multi-occupancy house is likely to be sold to say a couple.

so if the ratio of OOs v small landlords shifts in favour of OOs without significant increase in new property, then plight of the renter get much worse.

I'm not sure lack of consideration for renters really puts you on the high moral ground.

How is not wanting renters at the mercy of landlords a lack of consideration?

As said we all agree the only solution is more building, in short I don't agree with what has happened in the meantime and do worry about the morals of many involved, hopefully more building will start to catch up and the whole house of cards will come crashing down and I will have no sympathy for those who can't sell there old cash cows which no longer produce milk.

  • Building houses now in an increasing market will lead to more properties falling into buy to let hands as property prices keep increasing. So the current situation we have now of a broken system is not simply "build more houses" ..... No no no..... we also need to apply other rules regs, laws to prevent building more houses leading to a worsening social situation.

New builds could be restricted to being purchased by owner occupiers only, at least for the first 6 mths of being on the market. Also, stopping non UK resident purchasers from buying would help.

Due to the diverse variations in housing requirements, maybe even local councils could be given the responsibility of deciding how much rental they need in their area and grant buy to let licences on new builds as they see fit.

Both of these would reduce demand and thus slow down the increase in houses prices.

    Houses for homes not profiteers.
    Peace.

I wasn't doubting your good intentions, but just the inevitable consequences for the remaining renters of reducing the supply at a faster rate than the number of people that need to rent.

I asked you before, but you never answered...
Will this rule also apply to the approx. 6-7 million British citizens living abroad?
    Houses for homes not profiteers
Houses for homes not for profiteers....
.... Is a slogan I think very much annoys them
Not so much annoying, but it does get a bit boring after a while.

That would be up to the countries they are living in. I believe most are in places like Spain which has a surplus of housing.

    What are you on about?

Tickers talks about stopping non-residents from buying property.
You do realise British living abroad are non-resident here in the UK, don't you?

So are we going to ban British Citizens from owning property in....Britain?

Just a thought, if you don't live in this country surely you don't need a house here?
