Another reason why Scotland has a better view on life. Parents are treated as adults and not naughty children!0

You don't think that trying to get you caught up took the teachers' time away from other children that could have well used it?
This idea people have that it's all about the impact on the child taken out of class is quite wide of the mark...0 -
There's more to a child's education than school. This is a rather personal and unhelpful post.
Well again, you say that, but where has this attitude to education lead?
Yes. there are a few headline cases of people who have your attitude and then do well, but far more often it leads, as it has with you, to a pretty miserable life.
It's far from unhelpful to point this out to people. Had you had my attitude to school, and had I had yours, I expect our situations could well have been reversed.0 -

Did they just say "supply and demand"? because that's the long and the short of it.blisteringblue wrote: »Roll on my retirement to France, this country is just becoming a complete joke. Fined for going on holiday, makes my blood boil.
If you're looking for somewhere without capitalism, you'll have to go further than France. I imagine the cost of holidays in North Korea doesn't fluctuate much with term dates...0 -
Do as we say, not as we do.

What a sarcastic, pompous, and downright unhelpful post !!
where you the school swot by any chance ?
poor fellow just wanted to take his kids on holiday when the price was more realistic, and affordable, holiday operators take full advantage of school holidays to almost double the price, this archaic law that the powers that be are now enforcing is yet another example of how we in this country are been walked all over by vicious little nobody councils and there ilk, to say this would harm a child's education going on holiday out of term time is frankly ludicrous, tell me, how are things in your ivory tower ?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I really feel for you here, can understand it if the kids are 2 weeks away from their GCSE's put there is no issue taking primary kids out for the sake of a couple of weeks. Your head sounds like a proper "jobsworth". You shouldn't have to ask anyway, you should just tell them you are doing it.
Personally I would fight it all the way to court, not sure how you go about it and if you will end up with bigger fines but I just would.
Roll on my retirement to France, this country is just becoming a complete joke. Fined for going on holiday, makes my blood boil.
Seems to be the way of the world of the creeping authoritarian state. I recently got a letter from my sons comp putting him in the red zone on 91% attendance from Jan/April this year and all of it due to illness.
Its getting to the point where I'm seriously considering home schooling.0 -

He trawls the debt free wannabe forum looking down his nose at everybody I wouldn't take it personally.0 -
A bit late and probably not much help in your future court appearance, but you should have factored the fines into the cost of the holiday and paid them immediately. Or not gone on holiday.
It's not nice and you have my sympathy. I've taken my kids out of school in the past and would consider doing it again, but only if the combined cost of the holiday and fine made it worthwhile over the alternatives.0
