O/S Daily Friday 16th May 2014

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Good morning everyone :)

Bad throat and bad head, paracetamol with hot lemon and honey is called for to get me through the day at work, TGIF has never been more true.

DD appears to be on the way to a massive manic episode and is making ever increasing life changing decisions based on this. If this is the case, we will be left with the crash and fallout and all of the associated aftermath so am trying to do as much damage limitation as I can. She completely denies she is tipping into mania and says this is what she really wants and no-one can stop her. I'll just do what I can and hope for the best.

Thanks once again to NPM x

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

    Morning. Another Good Friday here.

Thanks for starting the thread TFM, reading about your daughter is tough and I just hope that she comes through it without too much damage. Just makes life difficult for you too.

Today we have our first weekend visitors to the new place so yesterday was a tad frantic. Final push to get things ship shape. Trundled up to Oban (45 mins each way) to buy stuff and still forgot the whisky and the tonic. Got them locally. Got plenty of logs, got rubbish kindling at Homebase, turns out to have paint on the wood and it doesn't half spit and crack when on fire.

Sat and watched some deer yesterday morning for about ten mins before they took flight. Calmed my day down.

Good wishes to everyone for a restful and peaceful weekend. I suspect I will have neither. :j:j

TTFTM - What a difficult time for you, big hugs.

It's cloudy this morning, I don't think we are to have the heatwave that a lot of you will have but it's not raining just now so we have to make the most of it. Yesterday turned into a lovely warm day - we couldn't have 2 days the same!

Turkey curry last night was good, lo meatballs from the freezer tonight - need to get this freezer emptied as it needs defrosting.

Hugs and well wishes to all, enjoy your Friday. Take care. XX

Glorious sunshine here. Did quite bit of gardening yesterday.

    Morning everyone

TFM - hugs to you and your family, sounds like you're having a particularly tough time at the mo x

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs to those that want/need them.

Now light, bright blue sky and sun shining, washing already on the line. Another load now in the WM, should just be 1 more load to do after that, then I’ve completely cleared the dirty wash basket, dried and ironed the lot! Spent most of the day yesterday washing, drying and ironing, only have DS2’s bedding to do then all beds and towels have been changed and washed too. It helps so much when the washing is drying on the line and not taking too long, I got 6+ loads of washing dry on the line yesterday.

I was completely shattered last night – did all the laundry, then did the housework, made some phone calls, took trousers to the seamstress, did some pc work and made some phone calls. Checked the fridge/freezer and storecupboard and then did a menu plan accordingly.

Dinner last night was a potato gratin, smoked sausages, bacon and egg – tonight will be something quick for the boys, possibly pizza and chips, I’ll have jacket potato and salad, DH will cook for himself when he gets back from taking us and caravan to the site tonight.

I have all the normal chores to do today, I’ll be heading to town shortly to visit the bank, then food shopping. I’ll then be home to pack and do some cooking/baking, as I finish off the last of the laundry – another busy day – but want to make the best use of the good weather.

Really looking forward to this weekend, we’ll be seeing friends we haven’t seen for ages, so be a great catch up and we have a table booked for dinner for tomorrow night so will be nice not to cook either.

Have a great Friday everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

TTFTM this must be so hard for you. Big hugs

Up early as I have a blood test this morning and then dh has a job to do about half an hour away.
It's glorious here, lovely and warm.
We need to find a new curved shower door for the bathroom but it's nearly finished. Just a case of putting everything back now, thank goodness.
Off out for a meal tomorrow, it's DIL's dads 60th so that will be nice.
Nothing much else. Enjoy your Friday and the sunshine x

  • Thank you everyone for the support. None of this is new, it's been a way of life for the last 15 years but we do seem like we are heading for a bit of a crisis at the moment. I have lost count of previous huge messes but we are no longer in a position to bail her out as we have done so many times in the past. It just helps sometimes to write about it, to people who don't know us and never judge.

    Thank you again

    Morning all,

Ttftm, so sorry to hear about your dd it must be so hard for you all, hope you can work something out.

Little dog continues to amaze me with her recovery, she still has a long way to go but she is doing so well she is managing to get herself about with only a few stumbles she is sleeping very well and the bruising has gone down an awful lot, bless her.

Nice day here today I shall get the wm on after this and get a load of towels washed and dried today, I will also have a quick tidy round but the rest of the day will just be pottering and looking after LD.

My mum is going to she shops today and has said she will get some nice fish (thanks for the suggestion Lamewolf) and maybe a turkey leg for LD, so I will cook them up later on.

    Have good days all xx

Good Morning everyone, Hugs to TTFM I hope you can help your DD without too much distress,it must be so hard seeing your own DD having problems.

Beautiful day again in Kent and the sun is up and shining away already.Just had a phone call from my brother he is in transit to Ireland to see his Dd in Cork then will stop off at my house for the day and night next tuesday on his way back home to France so I'm really pleased as I've not seen him since last October when I went down to visit for a couple of days.Because his children are scattered about the UK he has to visit them in turn and I am on his return journey to Dover so I get to see him on his way back to the ferry :):):) but its good as he will get all the bits locally that he can't buy when he is back at home in rural france.60+ kilometres to the neaerest supermarket and the closets big town is about 100K+ further than that :) so he has a shopping list as long as your arm when he gets to my house and we spend the day shopping :):)It will be good to see him though.
History club this afternoon and we are discussing Offa's dyke which should be interesting.
Then a good week-end forecast weatherwise so hopefully will be able to get to the coast I get my car back on Sunday, the six weeks are up and I'll be able to drive again :):):)Can't say I'll miss the buses 'cos I won't:):):) Still I have saved on diesel I guess which is good
Right time to get a wriggle on the kettle is calling :):)
Have a great day everyone what ever you are doing
    Cheers chums
