One of my favourite memories from working in travel was during the ash cloud (some great stories came out of that event). We were working round the clock to get our clients home by whatever means, and offering any other assistance as needed.Doshwaster wrote: »I would include those with the "things which can be bought". I once arrived at a hotel and realised that I had forgotten to pack any pants. No problem, I didn't let it run my trip, I just bought some more.
About 28 of my clients had flown out for the day to a conference at a major European city, and ended up being stranded for 4 days in just the clothes they were wearing.
We got them all hotels, etc...but one of the bosses of this group phoned with a 'delicate' matter. His wife always bought his underwear as it was the only brand he liked, and could I find out where he'd be able to buy some of this particular brand in the city he was stranded in as his wife was out with friends and he didn't want to disturb her. I asked him to tell me the brand name on the label....then directed him to the nearest Primark!
I think the poor love was expecting to be directed to some exclusive department store. 0 -

I had two colleagues stuck in New York. One took it as an excuse to have an expenses paid holiday in the Big Apple. Another was frantic to get home so he eventually got the airline to get him on a flight to Dallas, then to Madrid then train to Paris and Eurostar to London.
He got back home after the guy who just waited in New York and who was on the first flight to London.
Whenever I'm travelling for business or pleasure the most important thing is just to chill. Getting stressed never makes things better.0 -

A lot of people came back via Madrid, but then the Spanish and French railways went on strike also!Doshwaster wrote: »I had two colleagues stuck in New York. The easiest way back for many, turned out to be buying a clapped out car in France and using the Eurotunnel, but there were a good few who came from New York on the QEII at £5k a ticket.0
