Does banking happen at weekends?

I ask because I am worried that my husband might have incurred bank charges for the period between yesterday morning when he took out cash at an ATM, and today when I transferred online sufficient from his savings account to cover the £3 shortfall (I actually transferred £100 just to make sure nothing else slips through).

A cheque was paid into his Lloyds account on Friday, so his balance on screen has never gone into minus, but knowing that the cheque won't clear until Tuesday at the soonest, would they charge him for technically being £3 overdrawn for 24 weekend hours?

He has never defaulted before, so I am hoping they take a considered view of this small "transgression" (if indeed it actually is one).
:D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Cashpoint debits usually come out straight away - so yes the 'computer' may automatically knock a charge on.

That said, I can't imagine any bank not removing this as soon as they see whats happened.

Oh thanks so much for that bit of optimism. I will wait and see, and if they do get bolshie we will threaten to remove the £4K in his savings account.

Incidentally, when I said I transferred the money, this is obviously not good practice for security reasons :o , but he is a computerphobic - and he trusts me! :D

why do people always say - we will threaten to move our savings - so what, it really does not matter

i do agree that most banks have a buffer of around £5 or £10 though

Lol, I'm sure you are right, on the scale of things. Okay I'll raise you to "withdraw our savings and tell all our friends about this rubbish treatment" :rotfl: .

To be fair though he did apply to withdraw funds that were not clear, so hopefully the buffer was ok

I know, and it was really s0d's law. The fact is that a cheque he wrote last week went through a week sooner than it has ever done before for the same payee. They usually hang on to their cheques for at least a fortnight before presenting them. Also he did ask me yesterday to do the transfer from his savings a/c, but I forgot :o .

Oh well, if we do get clobbered it will be a lesson well learnt :(. And me in the doghouse  .

    Had a simular thing happen.

My son took £200 out of his account because it showed on the ATMs balance screen on a Saturday.

    I had words [STRIKE]shouted at him[/STRIKE] slap.gif because I knew the cheque hadn't cleared.

Confiscated the money and paid cash back into the bank on the Monday afternoon.

The cashier said most banks don't proccess weekend transactions till Monday so I should be alright.

Had to wait three weeks for his bank statement to arrive. They money went in and out on the same day.:j

Bogof_Babe you've replaced the funds quicker than I did. You should be alright.

Feel free to use this if necessary. slap.gif
