Postage help!

Just realised someone won my item from germany.. i've not stated that I don't ship internationally, but I didn't select it. I don't mind sending to germany, but i've no idea how to work out postage costs - according to royal mail, it'll cost £5 - its only 48p Uk postage (0.85kg), am I right, or have I got it wrong? (item's only worth £4)

Hi there, how are you sending it? Airmail will be much more expensive than surface mail, are you getting it signed for etc? Have you tried going on the Royal Mail website and searching for post costs using the weight and size of your item? :cheesy:

I used the price finder to germany for a 830gram parcel, just want the cheapest offer, and that was from me using royal mail.

there is no way that a 830g parcel is 48p to send within the uk. I make it approx £2.92 first class, and £2.30 second class.

Using airmail to germany i make it approx 5.08 and via surface mail it would be £5.98ish.

I dont think 5.08 is bad to get to germany via airmail. Dont foget to add on any packaging costs etc... so you could charge approx £5.50

aah the penny drops - sorry it's because you've put it would only cost 48p to post in the UK, I (and I think the other poster) had misread your 0.85 kg as being 85 grammes rather than 830 grammes! ;)

So it looked a bit strange that it would cost so much to post overseas for such a lightweight item.

But you're right it does look to be a fiver whether you send by airmail or surface.

I think I might got measurments mixed up, curses not having scales! From sending the same package to the uk, its 0.84kg, and it went as a large letter. They really need to teach measurments in schools :/

they dont use the large letter thing etc... for international mail so it would still go under small packet rate in europe which is still approx £5.08 for airmail.

Are you sure you sent the same item in the uk with a weight of 850grammes for 48p?????

are you sure this item is not 85grammes???? ie. 0.085 if it is so light and that sort of weight is aprrox a heavy birthday card weight then the price for overseas would be via airmail £1.19

I think you really need to weigh the item all packaged up before you can charge your buyer a price. As if you get it wrong it could be a costly mistake

Does seem like a lot though, 48p for uk postage, and £5 for international o.o

it wont be £5 for international if you only got charged 48p uk see my post above.

I think you have your weights wrong. If you paid 48p then the parcel must be 85g ie. 0.085kg so then the price abroad would be approx £1.19.

you need to get some scales or go to the post office tomorrow morning with the parcel packaged up and get them to weigh it and give you a price.

Without the exact weight we cant do a lot on here.
