My guess is that the ground slopes from the front of the house to the back such that the house is effectively forming a "dam" to the ground water. Given the amounts of rain we had earlier in the year that will still have ground water levels very high, and heavy rain into that will lead to ground water looking for a potential outlet - which it may be finding at the back of your house - in the crawl space.
I agree however that a wide angle view of the whole back of the house would make the above pictures easier to understand.Adventure before Dementia!0
