Water pouring from under balcony

Hello all; I had an extension built, and a balcony with a "crawl" space under it- the house is higher than the garden. I wanted the space under the balcony for my cats to go to when they don't want to come in. Anyway, today I looked out the balcony and there is a lot of water on the patio(garden all paved over), all the way to the middle of it. I looked at under the balcony and it's drenched in water. I talked to the builder who said there was nothing he could do as the house is higher than garden/patio...I asked why didn't he say anything as he knew that was a space for the cats to go to(I wanted to out some lino and cushions there). We argued. Now I am worried I cannot do anything with that space, we paid the builder extra to do the space. As it is, I cannot even store stuff there as it is so wet. Does anyone know if there is anything I could do, please? Many thanks in advance.

First I assume that I have "got it ".
The patio should slope (very slightly) away from the house. If it doesn't then you would need to relay the paving to achieve this or put in line drainage
Forgotten but not gone.0 -
Hello, thank you, will try that link shortly; Tony, I have one of those in my driveway, but, in this case, it wouldn't be good because the crawl space under the balcony would still be wet, and that is one of the problems. The water is coming from the crawl space, and going out into to the paved garden, lots of water. Sorry can't explain properly, but will hopefully be able to post the pictures soon. Thank you both!0

If it's lower than other stuff then water will naturally gravitate towards it. There are two reasons/sources for water:
- it's channelling downwards/into it
- it's coming up through the ground
If it's the first one you could look at how you can divert that water. If it's the second one then only a pricey solution would work
For now I'd hang some wide shelves on the walls for the kitties, or chuck some plastic and pallets down, or even some plastic milkbottle crates/similar.0 -
