A modest tarpaulin or basha sheet plus plenty of cord allows you to make a tent, sunshade, hideyhole almost anywhere you can tie up to & has the allure of the army. Try military surplus or a fishing shop?
Our lot have an arsenal of nerf guns. Load, aim, fire, collect up & start again. Hours of fun & course, parents play too (although being bigger targets is a bit frustrating)!
Hoping you have a lovely time shopping for him & that he has as much fun as you do!
what a great idea! Hubby put his fishing bivvy out to air on the green out the front last year after he caught out in the rain...half the neighborhood kids ended up in it! We had a ball, a picnic in there and some water bombs too!
I think I will go for a tarpaulin, some kind of easy to put and down tent some more water bombs...oh I am going to have some fun with this!
Both kids (and us!) Will make great use of it all over the summer and come bad weather we'll use the tent inside like a den!0 -

Ohhhh giant connect 4 do you mean something like that? Sounds great.
We always have a family day out for birthdays, so it's just the gift I am fretting over. I'd rather spend money on a great fun day out together. But you've got to have a gift to open on your birthday morning when you are 4 surely?
yes and foam jigsaws and swing ball (for me) and chalk for the paving stones skittles etc
the gift could be if u not fussed about price not sure u mentioned it but my kids both have one of these look eles wear for cheaper just look at link and they have used them so much and play with them in the car too;)

Giant bubble wand - there's a company that sell them on ebay and amazon complete with liquid and two different types of wands, one for giant bubbles, the other to create lots of little ones.
Replacement bubble liquid is expensive but it's a weight thing when it comes to postage - there's lots of recipes on the internet for how to make it yourself with basic ingredients.0 -
Have you any room inside your house for a pop up tent? You could set it up somewhere for him, decorate with balloons and a banner, put some wrapped up presents inside and they could use it as a den on rainy days.0

Fab idea! We will set it all up in the living room for when the birthday boy gets up in the morning!0 -

I bought a Hexbug Nano V2 Hurracane (you'll have to google it, i'm not up to speed on describing what it is). It was reduced from £35 to £10 in Smyths and comes in a big box so looks impressive and feels like a "big boys" toy!
You could just get a really really big cardbox box and fill it with something silly that your son likes such as balloons (or in our house it would be toilet roll tubes - you may laugh but my son would love it) and wrap it up.
I once wrapped up some stones for my son - it was his favorite present....0 -
Will be watching this with interest as my eldest is 4 at the end of the month.
He's very posey and nosey, so we've bought him a small digital camera in his favourite colour (blue). £40, 12.2 megapixels and waterproof to 10 feet, which will be handy over the summer when the pool's out.
He's also got a miner's head torch so he can have handsfree light in his secret den, and a real stethoscope (£4 on eBay, and it works a treat) because he likes listening to people's insides!0 -
I bought my grandson a Vtec camera for his 4th birthday tomorrow0
