why do you think that wedding dresses from China, Bangladesh etc are so cheap?
Sweatshop labour and horrendous working conditions.
the garment industry in China and other places is notorious for the low pay, long hours, bad working conditions and the unsafe factories.
They also 'copy' established designers ranges - so it isn't legal to sell them here - that's why you have to order them online from source.
to the untrained eye they look lovely - to anyone who has had any training in the garment industry - they are rubbish. cheap fabric, badly cut and sewn, trim not sewn on properly, stress points not reinforced, but hey - they will last for the 'big day', and look absolutely fine in the wedding photos!
but by buying these - you are shoring up those sweatshops. don't let it ruin your day though, by thinking of how people worked 12 hour shifts, for very little money, so the factory owners could make huge profits. oh, and put their lives on the line as these factories often collapsed or caught fire due to the awful disregard to health and safety.0 -
They may look value for money but I ordered 3 bridesmaid dresses paid £149.08 then £29.63 for shipping £3.54 for insurance paid on the 25/2/15 was dispatched on the 21/3/15 then got another shock when DHL texted to say I had to pay another £65 for tax, they don't mention that on their site, over a month they've had my money. I would never use them again,0

All imports from outside the EU are subject to tax, not just bridesmaid dresses. It's up the the buyer to know the import laws for their own country.Married 30/08/14 :heartpuls0 -
I loved some of the dresses on Lightinthebox but what it boiled down to was, if I didn't like it, I would have wasted ££ on a dress and would have to fork out for a new one.
Have you tried BHS? They have some beautiful dresses on there x:j:jOur gorgeous baby boy born 2nd May 2011 - 12 days overdue!!:j:j0 -
I ordered a dress which was not shipped until after 30 days from ordering. After I contacted them stating I would cancel the order they assured me it would be out soon. I received the dress the night before my affair and had already purchased a different dress and had no time to have the JJ House dress altered regardless. They are REFUSING a refund. This company is a NIGHTMARE. They knew to take the money out of my account immediately but customer service is non existent. I am contacting the better business bureau as well.0

If you're on a budget then why go for a "traditional" wedding dress? I wore a Chinese-style dress to my wedding which cost £55 from Chinatown in London.0

I took the gamble, but on the basis that losing £100 in the scale of the overall costs of the wedding, it was worth it. I'm glad I did as in my case, the experience was fully positive all the way. The dress came earlier than expected, the perfect size (I paid a bit extra to have my own dimensions), and looked exactly like the pictures. I didn't have to pay any customs fees, although I realise that was lucky (was expecting it and had factored it in my budget).
I got a lot of compliments on the dress, so was delighted to have gone with it, but I went into opened minded, ordered early giving me plenty of time to order something else if not happy, and continued to look at other dresses.0 -
This is not going to be helpful but.......I actually bought my wedding dress from a site through ebay.
Apart from being too long (so had to be shortened) it was perfect.
Whilst I wasn't on a budget as such, I didn't want to spend £00's on something I would only wear once and only for a few hours.
With postage, it cost me £55 - ok it wasn't a designer one, but there was nothing wrong with it and people were amazed at the cost.
You can get some good ones (and obviously some bad ones)0 -
I got mine from eBay, less than £100 and made to measure. Because it was a 'UK seller', I didn't pay any customs charges. To be honest, I suspect the UK seller was a front, but my dress was perfect. It took about 6 weeks, and got many compliments.

There are literally THOUSANDS of horror stories out there. If you are going to order from abroad, go ahead but do it with PLENTY of time for it to A) never turn up and/orturn up and need alterations or C) turn up and be awful
https://www.facebook.com/KnockoffNightmaresBaldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?0
