I am surprised you needed to ask.

I didn't need to ask, its all very well issuing an LBA but that would take months to sort out when the op was told to go back on Saturday.

Demanding a refund in 24 hours will just give them a good laugh.

A lot of these phone shops do demand ID if you're paying in cash for a phone- last time I bought one I had to show them my passport before they would accept the cash. They just kept saying can you not pay by card and when I said no I don't have one the woman said 'Dont be stupid you must have one. Everyone has a debit card' I got increasingly narked until eventually I had to show them my cash card to prove I didn't have one. I said it was a stupid policy and they said it was to prevent fraud as card transactions 'couldn't be fraudulent' to which I laughed. Very loudly and said 'so what happens if someone comes in and buys an expensive phone with a stolen credit card? Is that not fraudulent then...'
