Takeaway discounts?

I just wonder if takeaways offering discounts are allowed to then alter them after placing order.
I know things like freebies are not guaranteed but a local one gives 20% of ANY orders over £20 and did for the first few orders(but then added delivery costs of £1.50) then only gave like 10% but did not charge delivery costs.
This may not sound much but on a big order if I have friends round it can mean instead of £1.50 in delivery costs we lose as much as a fiver in the discount.
I tried contacting the takeaway in a polite way but they do not understand the situation, now I am more asking the rules on this than anything else as we enjoy the food there and they are friendly to us on the phone as they recognise my voice and similar orders each time so do not want to fall out with them.

They can offer whatever price, discount etc they want.
If you place an order, presumably they confirm the price. You can then accept or reject that price. If they don't confirm the price, deliver and try to charge a higher price than you expected, you can still presumably reject the deal.
What they aren't allowed to do is deliberately advertise a false price. In this case it may be worth contacting Trading Standards. Or just buy elsewhere.0 -
£50 orders made regularly directly over the phone?
I'd forget what discounts were printed and be asking for a discount "because it's you".0 -

Not often, most of the time the order is around the £25 mark.
Anyway a friend came down with another friend tonight so I ordered a collection as they were driving down, when they got there they were told the FULL price despite menus showing 20% discount over £20 piled up at counter!!!!!0 -

But what did you pay? Did you get the discount when you asked for it?0 -
Very often, the discount requires a voucher or a discount code. If you don't tell them about the voucher or code when you order, then you pay full price. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

Not for this place, its just listed on menu as 20% off ALL orders over £20 nowhere does it mention to ask for the discount or that you need a voucher in fact I have never once come across a takeaway that does voucher discounts bar brands like Dominos, only seen 1 local Chinese say that if you bring the menu into the takeaway when collecting you get a 20% discount, at most takeaways have on menus that its like a free bottle of drink or a kebab with orders over a certain amount and to ask for the thing.
Anyway when my friend went back to pay for it after going to cash machine the take away said "just give me £20 for it" but considering the order without discount was £21.70 then thats not even 10%
If it says off ALL orders and nowhere does it mention to ask for discount then it should be automatic otherwise they should say ASK for discount.
Next time I order I will ask about the 20%, it could be they have changed menus in last few days but that is unlikely since the prices of all the food has not changed.
We only ordered so much because we expected a discount i.e we were going to order £10 worth but thought that we can get meal deals on top of that i.e 2 pizzas, 2 chips and 2 cans for a tenner and with a discount would of come down to like £16 so £6 more for all that extra.
Thinking about it I guess they may try and argue that the discount cant be used on meal deals but if that was the case then why does it say ALL orders.0 -
Why not ask them why the discount hasn't been applied ?0

Does it have fine print on the menu that states something along the lines of not applicable on meal deals or applicable on full priced orders only or only one offer per order? Most restaurants in my experience only allow one discounted offer, per order.0 -

None at all, just 20% off all orders over £20 and they used to give it until recently though it always has been kinda strange and more like 10%, at first I just assumed delivery costs were expensive but then I worked out the full price, minus 10% then add £1.50 delivery, etc.
At first they were always giving discounts this is only order they havent though previous ones I worked out at 10% I just feel its dishonest as if the discount wasnt available we would order less or just collect it from town when up there because its cheaper to get food when you need it rather than getting loads and chucking stuff like chips that cant be reheated proper.
Just do not understand why they keep changing the discount as twice we ordered under £20 by accident and it came to the exact amount we expected, I even asked early on when they first opened(been there 2 months) about the discount and they confirmed it was every order this was the boss and when I ring up he recognises my voice and the food we order. Why not ask them why the discount hasn't been applied ?
I wasn't there to collect, I would of got it delivered but did not have enough cash on me and thought we would save potential delivery costs.
I did tell my friend about the discount and he said he told them he thought it would be less due to discount but was told that was correct price though do not know who served him.
It could be anything really, only the boss speaks reasonable English the other staff do the cooking as their English skills are bad and I have a feeling maybe they are making the food and not marking discount on the order, that or the discounts started messing up when they started doing online delivery and online doesnt have a discount only via phone(its quite common as online charges them commission)0 -
Strange, what has listing an older thread got to do with anything?
Show me supermarket food on the level of take away and costs cheaper otherwise it is just things called the same, its not just a case of buying food and popping it in oven and considering pizzas at supermarkets cost a lot for nothing then its not the same.0
