I don't know where your OH is, but we managed to exchange contracts while I was in Canada for work. Sols couriered the contract over to me, I signed it and couriered it back to my wife (took 2 working days for it to arrive), she signed and dropped it off at the sols office, all done in the scope of 5 days. Not the cheapest solution, but we wanted to be sure to secure the house. Could have done it in 3 days if we'd paid the premium and had it couriered 'next day' service.0

Assuming vacant possession, I think you are dragging your heels slightly. We are also FTBers, had our offer accepted on 28th Feb, went through the hell that is pinging back and forth between Santander's admin and underwriting queues for 4/5 weeks, had a separate survey to the mortgage valuation, solicitor off on holiday over Easter and had a bit of to-ing and fro-ing about building reg issues and indemnity policies.
We still exchanged three weeks ago and complete next Friday. Didn't you know your partner was going to be away?0
