Upset with estate agents /vendor threat

I still do not think what we have requested is unreasonable. Its not about "getting our act together" we cannot BOTH get down there before that date. Our solicitors have requested the presence of both of us to exchange and unfortunately that is not possible.
I do not understand why they are making us go in after reading all the useful feedback on here now??
Wish they would just post it!
the only reason to see you face to face would be for proof of identity which should have happened at the start. There is no other reason to do this, I have bought 4 properties and all paperwork was done by post (just use special delivery to ensure its there next day). On day of exchange they just phone to ask if it is ok to go ahead.
as others have said, look at the timeline, I had a FTB buy my previous place and they were going along at their own pace and after 3 months had got nowhere, i threatened to remarket the property and that kicked them into touch....
get on it, or dont come crying here when they wake up and dump your !!!....it sounds like you deserve it.0 -
I echo the above- no need for you to sign there0

Read the "anyone else waiting to exchange" thread and see it from the other side. If I was the vendor, I'd be pretty unhappy and uncomfortable that my buyer was just delaying again. At some point you decide that they're just wasting your time and if the market has moved, you let them go. In your shoes, I'd really get a move on.0

TBH I dissagree with a few of the posts here. I think the vendor is just getting frustrated. If the house is of non-standard construction and has a tennant in it I'd be surprized if they got another buyer that quickly. A few things that spring to my mind:
You mention the tennants been asked to move out - but have they? No one can exchange on that house unless it's empty
As others have said not sure why your sols is insisting you both go to their office in person - phone them and ask if it can be done by post.
As you have been in direct contact with the vendor directly already it can't hurt to contact them and explain your reasons for not being able to exchange until 28th. You can't be sure what the EA has told them so a simple explanaition from you may be all that's needed.
Try not to be bullied you've done nothing wrong!

There are some lenders who expect the borrowers to sign mortgage deeds in front of a solicitor (and/or the solicitor to have verified photo ID), but even so that could have been arranged before now, given that they've had the mortgage papers for at least a month.0 -
That depends on any new buyers position , could be a cash buyer, skip searches , prompt solicitors etc , easy done in a matter of days
I've bought and sold a few properties in my time and have known more than a few people who have also done it. Add these to the plethora of posters here complaining about the time the conveyancing is taking and I would bet next weeks wages on the fact that no cash buyer is going to jump out of the woodwork. Just being a cash buyer doesn't make you reckless and anyone who buys a property without the relevant checks deserves to lose their money."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -

Good point - if the tenants haven't moved out then the bottleneck is likely to be the vendor, not the OP.
If this is the case then ane extra 2 weeks is neither here nor there...0 -

So , you agree with me then
