The word 'attacked' has only been used as the thread has gone on, it wasn't in the first post. Previously it was yapping and 'having a go' apparently.

What does "having a go" mean on your world?

I wouldn't punch them in the face, or physically attack them in any other way, would you?

I would warn them to back off and take one step back holding one hand in front of me like a stop gesture and attempt to move away from them; if they then came in reach they would either be on their backside on the ground or in front of me facing away with one of their arms firmly up their back while I called the police. And that is not an attack it is a defence, if you feel threatened and escape is not safe and possible, you are allowed to defend yourself, why should a dog be expected to behave to a higher standard.

What would you do? We have already heard what you wouldn’t do and you can’t reason with the unreasonable?

Don't dogs pick up their puppies in their teeth? Maybe this is what the husky did, just an "I'm tired of you now, let's stop this and remove you from this situation" kind of thing?

    Just another viewpoint.

My dog is well trained, he tends to approach other dogs slowly, and if he approaches a dog that seems nervous or growls at him he whimpers and back away so I am fairly confident he will pull himself out of a 'situation' but I still dread a badly trained dog running over to us when mine is on lead.

I had a situation on the park once with an very excitable staffy insisting on exerting his dominance onto my dog by constantly humping him. The staffy was off-lead with no collar, and the 'owner' was a 10 year old boy who couldn't have controlled the dog even if it had a lead. At first they were playing, but after a few minutes I was getting nervous as my dog's patience was clearly beginning to wear thin with it.

The solution ended up being to remove my dog's collar and lead and put it on the staffy and ask my dog to sit away from us, whilst I shouted at the boy to go and get a parent. The staffy constantly barked and was desperately trying to pull out of the ill-fitting collar to get to my dog who sat patiently wondering what was going on (good boy!). 5 minutes later, cue chav scum mother appearing with crying boy to mouth off at me with language I've never heard for upsetting her son and 'restraining' her 'harmless' dog. I told her that next time I wouldn't send for a parent but would take the dog home with me and call the council to deal with it.

I always carry a spare loop lead with me now, just in case. If an owner can't recall their dog, or I'm faced with a stray and it is bothering mine, at least I have a chance of restraining it myself and preventing an outburst that might injure my dog or anyone else's.
