The Coming Zombie Robot Driving Apocalypse of You

Err, if you think the government is going to allow driverless cars run people over in any circumstances whatsoever, then you are crazier than a box of frogs.
Apparently, all the driverless cars being tested in the UK are programed to stop for pedestrians and wait for them to move. So it won't be difficult to 'hijack' one.:)
Not an insurmountable problem for even your average criminal.
Hacking, schmacking. You just disable the thing and strip it down for parts.
The run over the robbers bit was a joke
as regards to selling the parts? Who are you going to sell them to when the manufacturers of the cars will be the taxi operators?
Eg can you sell stolen toyota wheels back to toyata?
Also is that risk of theft and selling the parts on worse with robo cars vs the 35 million human cars parked on a road for 22h a day currently?? Clearly not0 -
No big advantage in automating that as a human can probably fill 100 robo cars per hour and at £10ph wage thats only 10p to fill a car which will then do 1000 miles.
So human cost of a refill over a 150k mile life is only £15
whats more interesting is that if a taxi fleet operator with 5 milloon cars wants it could transition much more easily to other fuels eg lile CNG as there wouldn't be the chicken and egg problem. So we could see the future of robo cars as nat gas powered as nat gas is a lot cheaper and cleaner
I have already predicted that you would fall back on the "back-up fleet of emergency response vehicles manned by humans working 15 hour shifts to keep them on the road" explanation.:)0 -
The run over the robbers bit was a joke...
I know....as regards to selling the parts? Who are you going to sell them to when the manufacturers of the cars will be the taxi operators?
The car manufacturers will be the taxi operators? See, I told you the taxi business was dead...Eg can you sell stolen toyota wheels back to toyata?...
Well, that sort of assumes that car manufacturers will be the monopoly providers of robot cars, now don't it?....Also is that risk of theft and selling the parts on worse with robo cars vs the 35 million human cars parked on a road for 22h a day currently?? Clearly not
Don't underestimate the ingenuity of the criminal fraternity. They will find a way.0 -

Car manufacturers dont need to be a monopoly for you to find it hard selling a toyota stolen door to ford motor co
I dont think I am underestimating criminals all I am saying is that if theft is as great an idea as you seem to think why isn't it currently happening at volume with human cars?0 -

??
A robo car industry does not need to be totally human independent.
You probably could easily automated refueling if you wish it would be trivial I was only pointing out that to do so is not a big saving
also I suspect robo fleets will be refueled directly from the 30 ton tankers rather than a tanker unloading to a station and stations filling up cars.0 -

Don't know. You're the one that said that the "manufacturers of the cars will be the taxi operators"....I dont think I am underestimating criminals all I am saying is that if theft is as great an idea as you seem to think why isn't it currently happening at volume with human cars?
I was simply pointing the possibilities that you had not considered.0 -

You clearly don't appreciate the possibilities of the Zombie Robot Apocalypse. In the future, everything will be done by robots. Fuelled of course by the power produced by my robotised cold fusion reactors. Provided that my alien friends come up with the blue prints, that is.0 -

But what if thieves steal the reactor reactor parts?0 -
