Never had a problem, their emulsion has a great advantage, it dosent need stirring.
For some reason even Dulux does nowadays.
  • B&Q paint is only good for use as a mist coat in my view as you don't have to water it down as it's watery enough :rotfl:

I wouldn't necessarily blame b&q paint. New plaster needs at least one 50/50 mist coat, then 2 more coats of plain matt emulsion before you even think of putting colour on. I would be more inclined to say the patchiness is from the plaster sucking up the paint. It doesn't matter how many months you leave it, it still needs the mist coats. As someone else said without it you may get peeling further down the line. Too late now, obviously, but I wouldn't write off their paint because of it.

New plaster needs a coat of diluted PVA to seal it prior to painting.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

We used Dulux sealer then 2 coats of Dulux paint on new plater and is fine.

You can use a specific plaster sealer if you want to, its just cheaper to use normal emulsion watered down.
My point was that you shouldn't just put the coloured paint straight onto new plaster.

NO never use PVA to seal plaster as it livens it back up when you apply the emulsion,Also emulsion will just slide all over it and would take for ever to get good coverage

"New plaster needs a coat of diluted PVA to seal it prior to painting."....Never do this if you intend painting the walls!

...and if you already have you'll need something like Zinnser Gardz primer before applying the emulsion.

I know, because I've done it :o I spent many an hour trying to remove & paint over wretched PVA

Thanks, We did have a water based coat on first. Then 3 coats of the dark emulsion.

When I took it back the lady in B & Q suggested silk rather than matt. We also bought Dulux.

    It worked an absolute treat.
