Based on you last sentence, I would suggest yes to taking it to a computer shop. I would avoid PC World for cost reasons.
The issue is probably related to a driver for a particular piece of hardware, we could spend all day giving you suggestions to run different commands but I think for your own sanity I would get it looked at directly.

Worst case scenario is a change of hard drive. You can do it yourself for £30 to £35.
