Our band is playing our first dance song, so we had the freedom to take an existing track and change the lyrics, so we looked at "Community Property" by Steel Panther. The existing lyrics are not suitable for a wedding at all, so we started to change them but it was really difficult!

Love Steel Panther! :D Saw them at Manchester. You're right, the lyrics are SO not weddingy, but that song is cool and the lyrics would create a laugh! :rotfl:

We didn't have a first dance, but if we had it would have been a rock song, possibly Always by Bon Jovi, (or maybe not thinking about it, it is abit cliche!) or there is a really cool one we both love by Firehouse.

OP, go with what you and your OH love. As long as it means something to both of you that's all that matters. I think a lot of first dance songs nowadays aren't the usual cliche lovey dovey songs.

A couple I know had an argument over first dance - they both love Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls but he refused to have it unless she learned to waltz properly *chuckle*

(Just out of interst - she did!!)

Paul Weller - You do something to me - *melt* always loved this song, then saw him live with OH when we were first seeing each other, and he said 'I love you' for the first time - gotta be the first dance song for us ;)

Me and the now DH went to dance lessons before our wedding. Didn't help us on the actual day because we didn't learn anything that matched our song (see above) but it was fantastically good fun. (and a tremendous aphrodisiac ;) )

Never managed to talk him into going back post wedding :(

We had Iris but the New Found Glory cover as it's a bit rockier and we are NFG fans lol

We're having Every Thug Needs A Lady by Alkaline Trio. The best man is going to play it. Not your typical 'wedding song' but it suits us to a T!

To put it into context, the song we really both love is Passenger - Let her go. Its a lovely song and the kind of music we both like and we love the tune, but the words are pretty opposite of a love story lol!

If you are worried about the lyrics not being appropriate could you use an instrumental version? To be honest I think you should have what you like though!

Losing the lyrics would spoil it for me definitely. Oh so many decisions to make!

I shouldn't worry too much about it, I remember my friend had Every Breath You Take by Sting, he didn't realise till afterwards it was actually a song about breaking up…oops!
