As said above, you get the refund from the date you send it, not the date they receive it. I sent mine off on 28th march, got the refund for april.

It always used to be printed on the rear of the tax disc, that the effective date is the postmark of the envelope you send the disc back in. Although I had a tax disc floating around here the other day I can't find it now to check. As above, though, get proof of posting. Last day of May is a Saturday, so you probably want to do it on the Friday to make sure.

Do you mean on the back of the form? I've never seen anything written on the back of the disc.

    Thanks guy.

As it turns out she may have a buyer, surprisingly.

I even posted one on 31 Dec from Morocco, and got the January refund...
Just out of curiosity, amongst your clothes, toiletries, camera, perhaps phone etc etc, why on earth did you pack your car tax?

Because it was still in the windscreen until we got off the ferry from Spain... The car's still (presumably) in the Gambia, though.

That may be how it's meant to work but I've often had lost a months refund. I have challenged them before and got the extra month refunded but to save the hassle I'd do it earlier if possible.

No, the back of the disc itself. Funnily enough when I wrote that, I looked on the form to see if it was mentioned there as I couldn't find a disc. Found one from 1987 that reads:

    "REFUND OF DUTY

This license may be surrendered at any time for a refund of duty for each complete month left to run. A month will only count for refund if the license is handed in on put in the post on or before the last day of the preceding month.

To claim a refund send your application and the license to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre, SWANSEA SA99 1AL or hand them in at any Local Vehicle Licensing Office. Refudn application forms (V14) may be obtained from any Local Vehicle Licensing Office or main post offices."

I have an idea newer discs have less text on them.
