Is this so you can claim benefits as a single person or is it so he wont have to sell his home to pay care home fees when the time comes?

Had a offer put in on march this year , buyer was in a chain and pulled out so they had to find a new buyer and all the rest if it, to cut a long story short everything now is sorted, my partner wants to move before christmas and so does everyone else in the chain, but I'm not sure I'm just really stressed, there's boxes all around my house no christmas decorations, Just can't think of anything worse. I'd perfer to put it off Intill tbe new year for the children's sake aswell.
    What would you do?

    Confused! ;)

I'm shocked at some if the replies on here to be honest. Me and my husband did move in December after but his alcohol problems got worse and we have since split up, since then iv moved into my own place with the children and had to give up work due to health issues to say the last few months has been a drama is a putting it lightly, I never came on here to be judged just asked for some advice , this man I have since met who im very much together with lives in another part of town and my children are settled here going to the same school as they always have done, this man iv met (but iv known him for years) I'm not ready to live with him as a family. He's only 20 years older than me so won't be going anywhere soon I hope. Also who knows the future maybe I will when the children get older? He sprang this on me out of the blue that's why I asked on here maybe it cakes across as a bit strange I don't know. I'm in a private rented house and my dad has paid my rent upfront for 8 months I'm hoping not to claim housing benefit having worked nearly all my life, and I do hopefully want to get back into work as soon as I get better and find a less physical job. I can assure you I'm not after this older guy for money I'm proud and like to pay my own way in life. I am on ESA right now with child tax credits and of course I'm thinking of money for my children and I'm nowhere near ready to live with a man anytime soon after what iv been through.

If you own half a house that is not your residence, then it is likely that any means tested benefits would be affected. This could include council tax benefit, income support, probably lots of other potential benefits too.

If your ESA is income related (rather than contribution related), then I think you would lose it, as the house would count as 'savings' and is likely to be worth more than the £16,000 allowed.
