Our goal is to post up information on work undertaken in the House of Commons that has a consumer focus but which may not be highlighted elsewhere.
We have posted this on the Consumer Rights board because we thought some of you might be interested in the topic of debate. We encourage discussion and comments concerning the topic or content of this thread.
Consumer Rights Bill: Report Stage
To be debated on Tuesday 13 May; estimated to start from 12.40pm onwards in the House of Commons Chamber*
The Bill would consolidate in one place key consumer rights covering contracts for goods, services, digital content and the law relating to unfair terms in consumer contracts.
The Bill is returning to the Commons Chamber for its final stages following on from a public consultation (see [url= https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4894174[/url])
To find out what was discussed during the Committee stage of the Bill, the House of Commons library has drafted a summary of the discussions which is available to view online: Consumer rights Bill: Progress of the Bill (The Paper opens as a PDF)
About the Report Stage of a Bill:
Report stage gives MPs an opportunity, on the floor of the House, to consider further amendments (proposals for change) to a Bill which has been examined in committee.
All MPs may speak and vote - for lengthy or complex Bills the debates may be spread over several days.
All MPs can suggest amendments to the Bill or new clauses (parts) they think should be added.
Report stage is normally followed immediately by debate on the Bill's third reading.
All information about this Bill is available on the Bill Pages at: Consumer Rights Bill 2013-14
How to watch:
The Debate can be viewed on Parliament TV (Silverlight or Windows Media Player required to stream TV): Parliament TV Player: 13 May 2014
Transcripts of proceedings in the House of Commons Chamber are available three hours after they happen in Todays Commons Debates
* It may begin later if any Urgent Questions or Statements are granted on the day, as Parliamentary business is subject to change.
Thanks

We just wanted to revive this thread to say that the Consumer Rights Bill 2014-15 will be back in the House of Commons today.
The Consumer Rights Bill is expected to be debated on Monday 12 January in the House of Commons Chamber.
MPs will be debating the Lords Amendments and a motion for a carry-over extension.
Find out more about the Consumer Rights Bill 2013-14 to 2014-15.
How it works
When a Bill has passed through third reading in both Houses it is returned to the first House (where it started) for the second House's amendments (proposals for change) to be considered. Both Houses must agree on the exact wording of the Bill.
The House of Lords have returned the Bill to the House of Commons with amendments. The amendments will be considered on the floor of the Commons.
There is no set time period between the third reading of a Bill and consideration of any Commons or Lords amendments.
'Ping Pong'
If the Commons makes amendments to the Bill, the Lords must consider them and either agree or disagree to the amendments or make alternative proposals.
If the Lords disagrees with any Commons amendments, or makes alternative proposals, then the Bill is sent back to the Commons.
A Bill may go back and forth between each House (‘Ping Pong’) until both Houses reach agreement.
What happens after consideration of amendments?
Once the Commons and Lords agree on the final version of the Bill, it can receive Royal Assent and become an Act of Parliament (the proposals of the Bill now become law).
In exceptional cases, when the two Houses do not reach agreement, the Bill falls. If certain conditions are met, the Commons can use the Parliament Acts to pass the Bill, without the consent of the Lords, in the following session.
Carry-over extension
A motion to extend the carry-over period of the bill by 67 days until 30 March 2015 is to be considered by the House following consideration of Lords amendments.
How to Watch
The Debate can be viewed on Parliament TV (Silverlight or Windows Media Player required to stream TV): Parliament TV Player.
Transcripts of proceedings in the House of Commons Chamber are available three hours after they happen in Today’s Commons Debates.
We hope this is of interest.

The transcript for yesterday's Consumer Rights Bill debate is now available at House of Commons Hansard: Consumer Rights Bill.
Those who are interested can watch the debate on Parliament TV Player.
As the Commons disagreed with one of the Lords Amendments the Bill will now return to the Lords. This back and forth between each House is sometimes referred to as ‘ping pong’.
The House agreed to extend the carry-over period on the bill until 30 March 2015.
Thanks
