Wow - I really am shocked to read some of the messages on here!
In the case of the OP, the company is charging them 76% of their original order price for an item not received (£124+£25 Saturday delivery - assume the OP paid £149 in total).
How much is the mattress actually worth if the company is spending this amount of money on deliveries? If it has indeed cost them £112.87 to send and return the mattress, would they ever have made any profit if the OP hadn't cancelled?
And as for the chap who was mistakenly sent a second mattress (not once, but twice!) and is being charged 50% of the cost of a product he didn't even order, how can this be justified?
I would love to sympathise with the vendor, as others here have done, but this is simply not reasonable. I hope that you all will persue this to ensure that justice is done (and I don't mean "screw the retailer", I mean "justice").
I also thank you for sharing your experiences - whilst they may not necessarily be cause to avoid this company, they are certainly a warning to check things very carefully before placing an order.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
I would like to make a post in response to Tim Daegan's post which was removed.
I read that post (when it was on the site), I found it very informative and impartial and I sure that the op and others may have found it helpful.
I would like to add here that as far as I can remember I have not chatted with Tim before and nor do I know him personally.0 -

Hi
Having read the thread it does not sound like the Mattress Online that I purchased from, our mattress turned up when they promised and has been fantastic. We did have to exchange it after 4 months due to a spring collapsing, this was handled both quickly and efficently at no cost to me.
I will continue to use Mattress Online again and again!!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but on their web site it seems to say you have to send them a photo of the fault so they can get the manufacturer to cover it under warranty. I think the legal responsibility lies with the retailer, not the manufacturer when you haven't had the goods for long - sounds to me like they make it hard work to return faulty goods and get a refund or replacement.0 -
The retailers legal responsibility for sorting out the replacement only lasts for 3 months. The springs collapsing is due to a fault in the manufacturing, and no fault of the retailers. However most retailers will act as a go-between as a matter of good customer service.
The way this is dealt with varies between different manufacturers and retailers. There are some very well known manufacturers who have a huge build quality problem (especially concerning springs). So you can understand any retailer not wanting to be out of pocket to to a poor quality manufacturer.
This causes a dilemma for any retailer:
1) Do they sell a make because they are very well known and will sell large quantities, even though their quality is terrible. Causing loads of hassle and extra cost when items are returned?
2) Or do they just decide to only sell high quality makes but sell lower quantities because they aren't as well known, but will cause very little hassle for any returns?0 -
Martin_S,
You will end up having to take them to court, I'm afraid. I'm currently waiting on a date for our hearing - but they didn't even refund the £12 they did admit they owed me until I'd started court proceeding. That was three months after we'd cancelled the order.0 -
