It is similar at a number of airports now, so I cant see why you are surprised after what happened at Glasgow airport.

You can drop off for free in the mid stay car park, which is 5 mins away, but will get charged £2.80 min for dropping off at Express car park or Short stay.

As rustyboy says, you can park for an hour free in the mid-stay car park and use the free shuttle bus to get to and from the terminal.

Are you suggesting the fee is there to deter terrorists

And isn't just another way to rip off passengers?

It's a way to generate revenue, yes. It's why airports exist.

Really? Do you realy think a £2.80 charge is going to stop a terrorist from taking a VED to an aiport and detonating it?

More likely Stanstead and every other airport which charges for drop offs only saw the bottom line on this in that they could make more money off travellers for doing next to nothing for them.
