Tbh, i dont know what to take a photo of, as Looking inside the boiler there isnt any part that is obviously damaged, its just the casing thats warped and bowed out of shape, where both front covers were blown off. So looking very likely to be small gas leak that ignited when The hot water tap was turned on

Have got independent engineer coming rnd and BG coming back to look at it too. HOwever where do we stand in the meantime, as we have no heating or hot water until the boiler is replaced. Shouldnt BG be doing something more/quicker, since i pay them to make sure my boiler is covered for breakdown?

Also, ive never looked inside a boiler before. if its serviced regularly, would you expect there to be lots of dead flies and small scraps of paper laying inside it, or would those have been cleaned out, as part of the service?

I would be contacting Gas Safe to try to get them involved ; they might send an inspector to investigate.

Shouldn't your home insurers be dealing with this? If you allow BG to make any repair then the evidence will be gone.

And in future, I would always recommend using small local firms. A lot of these people at big companies like British Gas aren't help accountable for mistakes they make and it could potentially been much worse if you were standing next to it when it happened.

The last engineer there will have a lot of investigation, trust me!
As the part wasn't covered and was £300 i'm guessing scaled heat exchanger? What boiler is it?

This has to be a gas leak if nothing internally has ruptured. Modern boilers are room sealed so it's likely it wouldn't be detected by smell.

I to would get a GS guy out to determine the leak source before BG cover their tracks?

OP, you have got me a little concerned here, I'm typing this as I sit waiting for the plumber to arrive to fit my new boiler :A:A:A:A
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

    Heating/hot water in the meantime:

Do you have an electric immersion you can use for hot water? If so, use that and keep a note of the hours you have it on. If you can be bothered in the future, you can work out how much more than the boiler it cost you to run and add it to any claim you make against BG, if they're liable (if the exploding boiler was due to their repair).

Heating - if you need heating (at least it's not mid-winter!), get cheap electric convector heaters to use in the short term. Keep the receipts as, again, if it's BG's fault you can add the cost to the claim. This sort of one:

Expensive to run but handy for emergency use.

Biasi 24s boiler. Yes i know its a crap brand and its old (15yrs, so good going for a combi that prob cost about £300)

Yes the heat exchanger was replaced recently

No immersion as combi boiler did hot water. Thankfully, as you say, its not cold at the moment and we have family nearby for showers, but its still an inconvenience
