New Boiler but which one!

We are having to get a new boiler and have a number of quotes. The cheapest is at £1700 for fitting plus a main eco elite 30w combo boiler. We have the option from the quote of swopping the boiler for a Worcester green star 24i junior - £290 extra
Worcester green star 28i junior - £385 extra
Ideal independent plus 30 kw - £145 extra or
Vaillant eco tech 831 - £435 extra.

I have had a look and the worcester boilers seem too small for our 3 bed semi and I am not confident in the reliability of the other brands. Can any one help or point in a direction we should go. We are really needing to keep the price as low as possible but I am worried that cheap can be a false economy. As we have been without hot water for 6 weeks now I really need to get this sorted!

How long are you planning on staying in the property? me personally I'd go for the Vaillant boiler as that is what I had fitted but it ws system boiler so could have been cheaper.
  • I would go Worcester every time (and have twice) ask about guarantees. Should be 5 yr.

In terms of 24i, or 28i, how many people in the house and how many bathrooms?

I would like to move but realistically I don't know if we will ever afford to. I was dead set on a Vailant but two of the fitters said they are overpriced

We have 4 of us and 2 bathrooms.
  • Looking at the Bosch page, 28i can do 10 litres a min. 24i can do 8.6litres a min. I would ask your installer if you have the water pressure to use that extra capacity. If you do, I would opt for the larger one. If you don't, no point.

Vaillant will have a 7 year warranty, if fitted by an approved installer, so does the Ideal. Check the others.

Is it worth paying the extra for the bigger brand boilers? I am so confused. The info on the bosch boilers seems to suggest they are only suitable for an apartment.

Where abouts do you live as that plays a big part on prices, Combi boilers are only really designed to have one hot outlet used at a time. Seeing as you have two bathrooms would you not consider a unvented cylinder.

WE have an old gravity c system (if that means anything) all the plumbers we have had in have said combo is the best (only) option on our budget. We are in West Mids

The whole c plan bit won't matter anymore as your ripping it all out and putting a combi in. Does that price include them supplying the boiler??? And are they power flushing it and fitting thermostatic rad valves (TRV's) to all the radiators.
