I phoned fitter last night. He said he would sort it out today and ring me tonight. Hope he keeps word. Also may contact company for proper guarantee for peace of mind. If not I'll report them.

From what you said originally, "the company" didn't fit your windows and door. A guy who works for them fitted them, doing some cash-in-hand work on the side.

Assuming that's the case, the company won't give you a guarantee as it's nothing to do with them. And there's nothing to report them for as they've done nothing wrong.

The guy you employed has dodged tax and may be in breach of his employment contract with them, if it says he's not allowed to do extra work on the side. All that you get by contacting them is him in trouble.

(unless he's a sole trader and it's his own company you're talking about?)

If necessary and you really need the certificate, you can get your local building control department to come out, check all the windows and then provide the certificate. It will cost you something like £75 to £150. The guarantee might be covered by the window supply company, it's frequently 10 years.

However, as already mentioned the Fensa certificate is not really needed unless you sell your home and even then should not be a problem. I believe that you can get insurance to cover any problems for less than the cost of getting the certificate. You might be able to get the windows guaranteed and Fensa covered by an insurance company if you cannot get them from where they should be available. It is not something worth worrying about!

I sent an email and got reply from his son asking for details. I've sent him a reply and asked for guarantee. Also the window fitter phoned me and said they were going to issue Veko cert instead as Fensa cert cost nearly £200. Has anyone had a Veko cert?

    Do you mean Veka?

If you have Veka profiles, this may be what he means:

These are 2 separate issues. Fensa relates to B Regs compliance; the veka guarantee is a product guarantee.

Looks as though that would suffice, if it does come through OK in the end.

I think I have been misled by the fitter. I don't think he works for company but gets deals because his son is manager there. Hopefully he will keep wordabout sending veka cert. Would I be able to get any sort of product guarantee from supplier ie if seals break a few years down line it surely would not be fault of fitter.

I got email back from the company. The fitter is a trade customer. They said they are going to register both jobs for him and a certificate will follow. Hopefully this will sort things and I have an email trail now if they don't give their word.
