Thanks for the link to the HM pop tarts - not for me personally but I bet someone else out there will love them:D

She does have a couple of lovely sounding granola recipes which might be more your thing:-

  • Cook extra potatoes in the evening and next morning fry them up in the bacon fat left in the pan from cooking a couple of slices of cooking bacon cut into strips and fried until crispy. Mix in the bacon when the potatoes have started to brown. Poor mans hash browns and cheap as chips and delicious

+1 for almost any dish with eggs. Affordable, simple, fast - and in the cold, what's not to love about a hot meal?

Wholehearted sympathies with the Awkward Squad before 10am. Semi-comatose teenagers have been known to eat the despised porridge when a handful of sultanas have been added, but I also implied it was "eat that or wear it"... (I'm not at my most patient & loving when confronted with comatose gracelessness.) May be worth agreeing to a few sleepovers to see what schoolmates eat - and the galvanising effect of having to keep up with a hearty morning person.... They aren't picky eater *toddlers* any more, but my word many of the same tricks apply.

    Best of luck!

    I'm definitely trying this one!
Love people use things. The opposite never works.

Do it with chorizo and add a poached egg on top if feeling decadent, yummmm!
  • We love HM pancakes here (the buttermilk drop-scone type), although I rarely make the effort for breakfast. I prefer to make loads as an afternoon snack, and hope there's leftovers for breakfast the next day.

I recently got a waffle maker for £5 so that is now also an option for breakfasts if I can make enough to keep for freezing. Adding a little cocoa powder to the batter makes lovely chocolate waffles without much extra in the way of fat or sugar.

Apple crumble is also a favourite breakfast in this house. I make a big one for dessert one day, then it is breakfast the next day. It probably has less sugar in it than a bowl of coco pops and at least it fills tummies up for a few hours.

My children do like porridge, but tend to put in quite a lot of nutella, sugar or honey, so it's probably not that healthy by the time they've finished with it.

For myself, I love frying up sliced cooked potatoes and bacon and having baked beans with it. Also, it may only be 10.30am but my breakfast quite shortly is going to be last night's leftover spag bol :D
