I often have porridge with a banana chopped into it but find it too much in summer when it's hot.

I've recently tried the overnight soaking of porridge and do it with equal quantities of oats, low fat yoghurt and milk - think you need a fair bit of fluid otherwise its far too thick for me. I really like it, again with banana and/or blueberries on top.

I like oats soaked overnight in milk with a handful of chopped dates. In the morning I top it with a spoonful of seeds.

    1. Weetabix with oats. Just put the milk in, Leave for a minute, add more milk to taste. Just so moreish.

    2. A couple of poached eggs on wholemeal toast. Yum. And a tip... Put the whole eggs in the shell in the bubbling water for 30 seconds BEFORE you crack them in...magic.

    3. Wholemeal toast with peanut butter.

    Looking forward to more ideas.

But I just LOVE eggs, fried, boiled, scrambled, poached they are delicious.

We occasionally go off the usual menu when we fancy and do something else like:

    soda bread
scones (whatever I happen to have thrown in, or plain)
    muffins (as above)
    oat bars (as above)
turnovers/pasties (scone dough, shortcrust dough, or bought puff pastry)
    American style or flat pancakes

and I like a samosa with a cup of tea as a treat.
Love and compassion to all x

you don't have to have 'breakfast' foods for breakfast you know. my GS2 prefers to have 'branston pickle sandwiches' or 'tinned sausage and beans'.

DS1 likes tinned pasta shapes in tomato sauce - has to be a specific brand too; getting quite used to most people thinking we're nuts when I tell them. :D

Take one standard mug and measure out 1 cup of plain flour, mix in one egg and then gradually mix in 1 mug of milk.
Heat a non-stick pan to very hot. Using a ladle add scoopfuls of the mixture (should be about 4 inches across), when it looks dry on the top flip over to cook the other side for about a minute.
I serve these with beefburgers on the side (like the original inspiration ds2's preference)
with syrup (buy cheap around pancake day - keeps for about a year no probs)
with ground pepper (oh's preference - don't ask)
    with sugar (ds1)
with fruit, or jam or choc spread or bacon etc. etc. ideal to use up the storecupboard
they freeze well and can be reheated in the microwave a few at a time when you're in a rush midweek. what more could you ask for.

So any other breakfast ideas out there?

try adding a tspn of baking powder and they will go nice and fluffy :)

Breakfast is probably my favourite meal :D

-we love eggs in our house, boiled with soilders, scrambled or fried
-Pancakes with jam, syrup, lemon & sugar
-tinned spag or beans on toast
    -smoothies
-my favourite atm is yoghurt with chopped almonds and coconut on top
    -Home made granola with yoghurt
    -bacon buttie
    -fruit salad
    -mushrooms on toast
-a fry up on the weekends

It all depends on what I have in :)
Love people use things. The opposite never works.

I don't do breakfast when I wake, I prefer to wait out till around 10ish.

My fave ATM is Quesadilla. I just hunt through the fridge for bits and pieces and just chuck it all in. Today's was a bit of left over roast beef, scallion, red pepper cheese and dried chilli flakes. Scrummy and a good use of small amounts of left overs

Thanks for the link to the HM pop tarts - not for me personally but I bet someone else out there will love them:D
  • French toast is yummy.
1 egg and about a cupful of milk, mix in a couple of tsps of sugar. Dip in slice of bread and fry in a little butter. I like them with maple syrup.
    Yummy
