Crumpets From Tesco

hi everyone,
I shop on tesco.com for my weekly shop and have done for the last 2 1/2 years. I find this very good for me as I have 2 young children and I dont drive so doing the shopping used to be a real chore.
Anyway this week I ordered 2 packs of crumpets in my shopping which was delivered on the 5/7/07. I came to use them yesterday I was about to toast them and give them to my young children. I noticed that they were already mouldy. I looked at the date on the pack it was 4/7/07. I was very angry that they had sent me these a day out of date.
I rang customer services they refunded my money and told me that they would get the store manager to ring me, only because I kicked up a fuss.
The store manager called me today and said I can only say sorry for this and if you tell me when you are going to place your next order I will get the pickers to double check your order, and that was it.
These items should not have been on the shelf for the pickers to pick in the first place.
Im still not happy about this, what else should I have done???????

Tesco have apologised. What else do you want them to do?Gone ... or have I?0

I want them to get it right and not send me something 1 day out of date. This is not asking for too much is it?????????0

They made a mistake. They have apologised. If this was a regular occurrence, then yes, I would be upset. But we are all human, and people make mistakes.Gone ... or have I?0

I do receive a lot of fresh food with same day or very short dates on and have also received mouldy fruit from them. Thats why I had to complain this time. Its not about the money or a freebie I can get, I just want them to get it right.0 -
If they keep supplying out of date and bad food, you have a choice, report them or pick someone else to supply your shop.
Thats the problem I feel I have no choice. having my shopping delivered is a God Sent (cheaper than a taxi). I have tried Asda and Sainsburys, with Asda I did not like their fruit and veg and always had a lot of substitutes. Sainsburys were always late, so Tesco were the best of the 3.0 -
I think you have done the best thing in speaking to the store manager. You have made them aware that it is happening, and now they have the chance to act on it and get it right next time xGone ... or have I?0

Tesco may be the biggest retailer in the UK but even they can't wind back time and change what they have done with your crumpets, so I don't think there's anything more that they can do for you in this instance.
Now that you have complained, hopefully they will instruct their order pickers ad shelf stackers to be more vigilant. But it is not illegal to sell food beyond the best before or sell by dates, though they should not sell somthing past its use by date.
Frankly I'd be more concerned that a product is mouldy only one day past the date (was it the best before or sell by or use by date?) - I would think there is a fault in the production or packaging in this case and you might want to take this up with either Tesco or the manufacturer.0 -

It was the best before date.0 -
I have occasionally had problems with tesco.com to do with sell-by dates and less than fresh fruit and veg, I think the thing is to monitor everything you recieve from now on and if you have a problem always let them know. If the problem persists, make a complaint and tell them that if they continue to send you substandard products you will no longer use the service, this should kick them into action!0
