I`d rather boil my head, than give one penny more than I owe to the taxman,

The UK tax code doubled in size to more than 11,000 pages under Labour and at that point was the longest in the world.

I have no sympathy for boring singers or dull comedians who try to dodge tax, but the UK tax system is a minefield for anyone doing their best to pay tax correctly. Anyone who's ever run a company of any size knows this. Furthermore we now have the ridiculous state of affairs whereby over ten million individuals have to complete the overly complicated self-assessment.

    Hardly straightforward.

Yes, I have a lot of sympathy with what you say here. My point was aimed at the super-rich who seem to think they don't need to pay tax, and their advisers who invent schemes designed to 'mitigate' tax which are obviously going to fail in court.

It really should, the media reports these shady settlements business and the HMRC make, usually for a fraction of what their actual tax bill was. Outrageous!

So how do you reconcile that viewpoint with WIP?

We're not talking about WIP here. We are talking about the super-rich who believe they can use schemes based on lies to pretend they have business losses (e.g. Chris Moyles claiming losses for a used car business he did not work in) and Take That's scheme, whose only purpose was to circulate money to pretend to make a loss.

At least with WIP you are dealing with real businesses that put their money at risk to get a reward. Totally different thing.
