Active Energy Direct & Opus
Hi, newbie here and not sure if I should create a new thread for this or whether one already exists.
Anyway, just looking for a bit of advice from anyone who has been in a similar position.
We have just started a new business and taken a small unit. The existing electricity supplier is Scottish and Southern Electric. I contacted them about a week ago to confirm we were new tenants. They took our details for the transition and said we could arrange a new contract with them shortly after they had completed the transfer of tenancy.
In the meantime, I have been bombarded with calls from brokers and have fended these off as our intention has always been to stick with Southern Electric, I have made this clear to all that have phoned. Yesterday late afternoon I received a call from a chap who started the conversation with "Hi Kim, this is Robert from Scottish and Southern Electric. We are just going to finalise your transfer and organise a new contract for you". As I have been wary of all the calls I then asked if he was definitely from Southern Electric and not one of these other companies claiming to work on their behalf to which he laughed it off and said no he was definitely from Southern Electric and not to worry once we had finalised our contract all the other calls would stop. He checked my details and asked for our bank account details. After checking why he said this was just to confirm we had a valid bank account from which payments could be made. He then said he would put me through to his colleague who would run through terms and conditions. I was then put through to another chap who ran through terms and conditions at about 100mph. He kept saying dont worry this wont take long as I had already told them I had my children at home so was busy. All sounded fine and as it was (or as I thought) Southern Electric I assumed that all was ok as they are a reputable firm. He ended the call with confirmation all papers would be emailed over and job done. Great!
To my surprise I then receive an email from Active Energy Direct confirming that I have agreed a contract with them to be supplied by Opus. I was and still am fuming. I have contacted Active Energy who said there is no one in now until Monday but have made a note of my request to cancel. I have also called Opus this morning who have said that my info isn't with them yet but probably still going through. I told them what had happened and to be honest it didn't sound like what I was saying came as a huge surprise to them. I asked if I had a cooling off period to which I was told no, I was not entitled to one as we are business customers. I then asked that surely as I had been lied to then this contract would not be valid. She answered that although this was what I was originally told if then in the terms Opus was mentioned then this would supersede what I had originally been told. I said that the gentleman had gone so quickly through the terms that I couldn't remember Opus being mentioned. She said that she would check the recording of the conversation. I also asked if the conversation recorded would include the first part where I answered and doubled checked the callers identity and was told that usually its just the parts from where the terms are read.
I am so angry at myself for falling for this and would love any advice anyone has. Is it possible to get out of this or have I made a very stupid mistake. The rates offered seem ok but now having done a bit of research I think I could have done much better.

Update: Active Energy have been in touch to confirm that an error was made and have withdrawn the contract. Thankful for getting this sorted.0

Hi everyone I too have had the same issues where they claimed to be another company and illegally duped me into joining their crook company.
In one day I had about 100 calls from sales, I had to call police and still they rang from local numbers and different numbers. They are exceptionally rude and lie! 2 years I have been fighting them and now they cut off my electric even though I have proof I was ill in hospital after childbirth and that I can't pay my bills without the shop being open. They have charged excess amounts of money due to them over charging. The bill they want from me is over £3000 which they refuse to turn on my electric unless I pay full bill. They charged over £600 to disconnect the supply and want to add another £400 on top of bill to reconnect. They have never taken a meter reading and Iv never received a bill yet they have this magic £3000 bill? This company needs to be stopped in the way they trick clients into signing up. They still don't have my correct name yet signed me up? How is this possible?
There are over 140 same reviews about misleading clients by fake phone calls and claiming to be another energy firm and aggressive behaviour. I tried to cancel with my cooling off period and they blank refused me.
Ofgem want to investigate this company so I need as much evidence as possible.

I worked with them for 6 days at their HQ in Ardwick Manchester - the callers are mostly drawn from among the unemployed - management are appalling bullies - though promised 8 weeks training, new staff are put on dialling within half a day. The script is very basic. The dialler mostly gets its data from the phone book, Thompson Directory and Yell - though supposedly targetting new independent companies most calls go to long established firms - I was auto-patched to branches of starbucks and even to Greenwich Royal Observatory - they phone pizza places at peak times because bosses think that is when management will be there but the only numbers they have are customer order hotlines - sellers end up trying to talk gas and electric to someone taking orders for pizza and kebabs - selling to them in most such cases is utterly impossible but staff are severely chastised for low sales - one manager went round hitting people with a ruler. I was fired after being heard telling angry customers about the Telephone Preference System, and after being assaulted by one member of staff who was suspended over it - the centre has only one toilet and 40 staff - management won't let staff do more than wee in the toilet as anything else makes bad smells - for number 2's staff have to use loos at the business park reception five minutes walk away. Staff are not allowed to have mobile phones and have to surrender them at the start of their shifts - I stopped taking mine in but I was still expected to queue to hand one in daily in effect surrendering an invisible phone - being fired was doing me a favour - they have yet to pay me for the hours I did do though - no surprises there0

Did you ever get the payment for what you did iv just left after 3 days much of the same thing were told that all numbers called were new business and if they told us different they were lying and we had to talk them round I realised this wasn't true as on the second day a number of a restaurant in my home town came up which I recognised and knew it had been there at least 20 years I am due to get paid Friday but guessing it won't come now after what you said.0
