i would also vote for the berlingo, its one of the few cars that fills the practicality requirement without costing a small fortune, although having said that i don't see whats wrong with an ordinary 5 door hatch, i've got one and can carry 3 adults safely in the back and the only problems i experience are that the engine i have is too small for all the weight.

mpv's are ugly, overpriced, overrated and in a lot of cases are gass guzzling tanks

I think that technically child seats are not meant to touch each other for safety and the relevant standards to apply. In the real world a bit of rubbing together is OK. I can fit 3 intimately belted adults in the back of my Corsa but only 2 child seats.

You could also have a look at the Ford Galaxy/Seat Alhambra/VW Sharan.

Now that the new Ford Galaxy is out, the previous model will fall more rapidly in price. They're pretty dependable if well looked after, so look out for service history.

OP might wish to consider the previous model Kia Sedona (Diesel 2.9) . We have had a Picasso, a Scenic and 2 Sedonas. Sedona was (and is) by far the most comfortable for the children and the layout would allow the oldest to do his own thing right at the back with the two young ones in the middle row of seats. Its a big car but is good to drive (IMHO) and is economic.

I've a Seat Alhambra (the cheaper cousin onf the Touran and Galaxy) and love it.

I have three children under six and so have to get all car seats in safely. IMO the C Max and others that didn't have individual seat sdid just not do this safely enough, as a certain amount of jamming was required.

Take a look at the 7 seaters, you can take the seats out/fold them down anyway.

Agree, Seat Alhambra, and the diesel engine is very economical on fuel too.

Ours is nine years old. and never had anything wrong with it apart from general maintenance

    3 adults in a corsa? speechless-smiley-040.gif

i'm talking about a focus sized 5 door hatch in my case and anyway the op probably only needs one full sized car seat as the other kids are older. mpv's in good condition are out of a lot of peoples price ranges and the cheaper ones are no more practical than any other 5 seater

  • My youngest will not even be two when the baby arrives so will need tow full size car seats and fit a large 13 year old as well. i dont think any 5 seater will accommodate. OH does not like the berlingo at all. Very practical but not very nice to look at. We are still lost think it will be a case of whatever we see at the right price first.
