Car Hire with Thomas Cook

Earlier this year my wife and I booked our flights to Orlando and a nights hotel with Thomas Cook.

We also enquired about car hire and were told it would be round about £400 for 11 days.
I'm sure we only asked for a quote but it seems the lady has added it to our package.

I'm guessing as far as they are concerned we have booked the car hire through them. Since leaving Thomas Cook we got a few more quotes and it seems to be a lot cheaper to do care hire DIY.

If we remove it from our Package will they now charge us a cancellation fee?

We've paid £1057.00 so far for the flights and hotel stay.

Thanks

Did you only notice today? Why did you not object at the time? Best people to ask, would be Thomas Cook. Ask and have a look at their T&C.

If you've only booked a single night in a hotel stay then it's possible your 'package' is a fly-drive package with a one night hotel stay added on.
When we've booked similar before we've been told that in order to make a package you must have booked some service (either car or hotel)for every day of the holiday in addition to the flights. If this is the case then it may not be easy to cancel the car from a fly-drive package without cancelling the whole package.

What does it actually say on your booking confirmation and ATOL certificate?

  • Lady in Thomas Cook was wonderfully helpful.
We are able to cancel our car hire FOC any time up until date of travel. Even after paying the balance we will still get a full refund.
