Hi,
I'm hoping someone can advise please. My daughter kindly took me for a medical appointment in Hendon in London & then back home again, I've worked out it's about 38 miles each way.
I want to give her petrol money but I haven't a clue how much to give her and I don't want to be rude by offering too little. She drives an automatic Porsche 911 (petrol) so I know the cost will be more.
Can anyone help in any way please?
Many thanks in advance. :-)

Wow, I first thought that this was a wind up.
What kind of daughter do you have, little wren?
I would be happy to take my parent to wherever they needed to go - especially for a medical appointment - any payment is just out of the question.

Why not just take her out for lunch on day?0

Straight answer to the question is:
Expect around 30mpg (depending on a few factors). So, 76 miles is 2.53 gallons, or 11.5 litres.
At the current (around here) £1.299 / litre that's £14.940 -
I could understand you wanting to give some petrol money if the girl was on her uppers and struggling to feed the brood.
However anyone who runs an auto 911 isn't exactly down to their last couple of quid, enjoy the time with your daughter and forget the money aspect.0 -
I drive a car which is as far away from a Porsche as you can imagine. I drive my mum to the shops, to any doctor and/or hospital appointments and to see relatives etc.
I would be most offended if she tried to give me petrol money, she shows her gratitude in other ways (looks after my pets when I'm away, for example)
Get your daughter a plant or a thank you card, she doesn't want your money!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -

From personal experience I think that's a little on the low for cost and high for MPG.
MPG is more likely to be 25 or under if it involved town driving.
Porsche takes super UL so that's nearer £1.35 a litre.
Not a massive difference but as the others have said, maybe something other than money like lunch would be a nice touch.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

Fair comment on the super, the mpg I just took from the specs seeing as I don't have one :P
As for the need to pay petrol, I'm with everyone else on that one but petrol cost is what the op asked about and no-one was answering0 -
I didn't explain myself fully in my first post.
My daughter only drives a 911 (not new, of course) because her Dad, my ex, bought it for her 30th birthday as she has always loved his cars. He covers the cost of maintenance, repairs & service for it & all the other extras so that she can enjoy it without worrying about the cost of running it. He also very kindly pays for the extra petrol that such a car obviously uses, which is quite a hefty amount each month, so that she's not out of pocket at all.
My daughter is constantly looking out for me, helping me, asking if I need anything doing, taking me here & there, taking time off work to come with me to hospital appointments - I don't ask her, she just does it - and she is quite honestly an amazingly kind, thoughtful, loving daughter as is my elder daughter.
When I told her I was going to give her petrol money, she refused, but I myself would like to help her out. After all, if I got the train & then buses, which I was going to do, it would cost me and I'm not in the habit of taking my children for granted.Money, money, money, must be funny, in the rich man's World!0 -
