This guy has clearly had a nightmare of a time attempting to deal with an incompetent bank that has untrained staff who employ obfuscatory tactics to irritate and deter customers from complaining or even going about their normal business.

Being rude to customer services don't help resolve the issue does it? The bank may have failed, but the people just trying to do their job around a broken system aren't to blame.

No matter how frustrated you can get with a company, you get angry, you lose.

Exactly. Pixie is right, there was no need to be so rude to the Natwest employee. As a phone centre administrator, he can only do the things he has access to - the glitch in the system isn't his fault and he cannot physically do anything else apart from go through the processes he has access to. He offered the address for the complaints department, in which the fault would get escalated, but instead the OP decided to vent his frustrations on somebody who was just trying to do their job.

What effect were you hoping to get by going off on the Natwest employee like that? Were you expecting him to say 'Ok, let me just recode the entire banking system for you'? In reality, he was very polite, was doing all he can, and you probably just ruined his day.

The guy said you can access online statements a day after you request for generation of statements (via post, which will take 10 days).

    What am I missing here?

I went into a branch and asked Natwest to print me a statement there and then. They did it, I sent it off.

No. If they manage to get the customer angry they have lost that customer forever.

I do not condone being rude to employees but it's a two-way street.

What's with dragging up multiple old posts about NatWest?

People working in contact centres don't set out to irritate and deter customers. How would you like it if people were rude to you at your work?

It takes a few weeks but a subject access request costs a tenner and gets all statements (and anything else) going back six years.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
  • couldn't be bothered to read all of that. You can save and print PDF statements from Natwest online banking.
They come out with your name, address and everything else you need.
They updated this on the online banking system earlier this year..

True but these are only available at the end of a statement period and some people have quarterly statement periods (why I have no idea!).

Fortunately for me I was near the end of a period when I wanted to apply for my mortgage so just had to wait a few days but wouldn't be much good if you were a week into the quarter!
