The only way to stop a runaway diesel (petrols can't do it!) is to block off the air intake pretty sharpish with whatever is on your back and hold onto it. They will try and suck shirts, jumpers, small children etc., in, but once they've no air, they stop.0

That's a stuck-open throttle though, which is nothing like a diesel runaway.0 -
