    HI,
I have N reg Saab (it's for sale at the moment actually) and I've had it for 4 years.

I had a problem once (clutch) and never since. This last service cost me some money (exhaust, brakes, tyres), but all the other services it flu through with green colours. The exhaust I was told (by my friend mechanic) was because I only do 4k miles a year and so the fumes stay in and don't evaporise... (or something like that).

I would recommend Saab to anyone. I went for old car because at the time I couldn't afford anything else (cheap insurance on these Saab's as apparently when you drive into the wall there is a shape of the Saab in the wall but Saab intact) and it was my first car.

Now I have brand new car (smaller). If I could afford new Saab I would go for it!

I bought a Mercedes 190E :T ( 2 litre) 1990 G reg It has been amazing- reliable and comfy. One of the best 4 cylinder cars ever built- a car that was well over engineered and so solid. It has been brilliant. I had one thing go wrong on it...alternator- even that was easy and the alternator could be repaired- rather than dumped!!;) A few Brushes and done! :D

It is nearly 19 years old now had it for 4-5 years - TOP CAR- I paid £850 for it! :rotfl:Keep you eye out for well loved- old git- cars lovingly polished each Sunday.... The bodywork is bomb proof too!

Ditto, I bought a 1993 Mercedes 190E recently for £900. It was owned by an elderly gent who had it regularly serviced at the same garage for years and had a stash of bills to prove it. None of the latest cars, even Mercs come anywhere near it for build quality and reliability. Good thing is that there is a dearth of companies supplying parts (non OEM) so you can get parts cheaper than you would at a Mercedes dealership.

Contrary to popular belief, its proved to be no more expensive to maintain than any of the Fords and Fiats I've owned before.

Despite the warnings about low mileage cars people band around, I frequently scour the classfieds for low mileage "old lady cars" that are often well serviced, garaged and immaculately clean. I've yet to buy one that has turned out to be a lemon.
