So sad, but beautifully done at the same time.

I watched the Tonight programme last night and had tears running down my face when the music was played and you could see it sparking a reaction in the dementia sufferers.

My father had vascular dementia after a stroke. This has hit me like a gut punch...because it's all true.

I loved my dad - I still do - and all I wanted to do was fix him. And I couldn't.

Very little hurts as much as that.

Tony's done a great job here. Well done sir.

    Blimey.
Absolutely safe at work so long as you don't mind being seen with tears tricking down your face.

    Stunning, poignant, beautiful.
    Thank you OP!

My Mother can barely put a string of words together these days but she can read without any difficulty and read out loud what she is reading.

    It amazes me.

I often wonder how much she understands of what I'm talking to her about. I guess i'll find out myself when my time comes.:(

I don't know how the daughter and the wife kept themselves so composed. So touching and heart warming, yet heartbreaking at the same time.

    Do not read at work.

I have just made that mistake. Brilliantly done.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

I thought after 6 years of working with end stage dementia patients I had become hardened to it.
Not so- I too watched the Tonight programme and I cried both at that and reading this.
    Beautiful.

  • I too ended up in tears after reading the cartoon story - and I work very hard at not letting myself cry these days after losing my mum to dementia.

My mum's last lucid words to me were "Don't be sad, I'm quite happy"...

This gentle story telling gets it so right - and its been told with love, compassion and honesty.

    Thanks, Tony Husband :A
