Best deal, PAYG on orange

I intend buying my wife a PAYG phone to use on orange. As she has never used a mobile before (only to answer mine), I won't want anything too technical, she will just want to receive free magic number calls and maybe make a few herself. So, should it be orange shops, or the net? and how much should I expect to pay. Oh, and with these PAYG phones, do you HAVE to top up monthly or has that died out?.

no there is no monthly top up necessary unless you are receiving a mins or texts or mb bundle, and with some companies u have to make a call every 3 month i think it is to keep the line active0
