You View is crap

Anyone else got You View with TalkTalk? its a nightmare and to be honest I am not surprised reading to many bad feedbacks in the TalkTalk forum as people are having a lot of problem with You View box.

My recordings keep failing, keeps going slow during the guide but what really annoys me is we can't record sky channels yet and this really gets to me. what's the point in having sky channels if we can't record them, seems pointless if you ask me. most of us can't watch live sky channels due to busy life like me.

I think I am going to join sky for a cheaper package :) better then rubbish You View from TalkTalk.

A YouView box has twin Freeview recorders-how do you expect it to record Sky channels that are received via a sat dish?
If you also have Sky then why can't you record it's output using Sky+?

I believe that Talk Talk offer one of their so called boosts( yuk), that delivers a number of Sky channels over the internet connection. Presumably licensing does not allow them to be recorded, IIRC you can't record any of the other catch up channels either , but I may be wrong on that one.
    Nowt wrong with YouView.

PS Watched the first two episodes of 24 last night via ondemand, episode 1 had been downloaded to my harddrive as a highlight, and I downloaded episode 2 whist watching it.

    What fun!

Had a look at the Sky starter boost from TT, what a chocolate teapot, no Sky Atlantic so no Starks and Lannisters.

Make sure your box is up to date check for software updates. I just had the same problem using my dad's BT Vision Box... kept freezing, pausing not responding when I tried to use it - I nearly threw it out the window!

Found out a software update sent via BT did not get updated, so BT sent it again and now the box is working fine!
  • I'd check updates, I bought a YouView box when they first came out a couple of years ago and never had any problems with it. Sky is only worth paying for if you watch sports IMO.

Using TT Youview just for catch-up works fine for me.

And no TV licence, either. :)

I suspect that non-recording of Sky is more of a technical issue than a rights one. But I could be wrong. When a Freeview recorder records, it generally records the incoming video stream. The incoming internet streams are a completely different format, and therefore require different processing and recording techniques. YV boxes are built to be flexible, but I don't know if this issue is fixable.

TalkTalk are currently testing recording the internet Boost channels (5 mths behind BT). They have not given a date when this update will be released. But theres a whole thread about this on the TT forum which may be worth reading.

What's your signal strength and what type of aerial do you have (roof? internal?). Any PVR can have troubles like this with a weak signal.

Yeah the recent £3.50 Plus increase looked like it might be worth it if Sky catchup could be recorded (like is done with Sky Anytime) -but you can't.

Totally useless to me and I cancelled my contract without charge with 9 months to go.

The retentions guy did say they were "Testing" a recording option.

As for TT's YouView box is is horribly slow and the GUI gives me a headache getting around. Worst bit of TV kit I can remember for a very long time. They need a massive redesign so it's not painful to operate for the customer.
