Im planning a trip somewhere warm in January for a week, looking at somewhere special, my favourite option at the moment is the Maldives but would maybe like a shorter flight. Any suggestions?

Capetown? Dubai? Oman? The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0

I second Dubai, Oman Middle East etc for a shorter flight. Egypt is shorter and also ticks the warm box, not sure what 'special' features you are looking for though.
Where in the Uk are you?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

would be easier to help if you defined "special" can only guess by the fact you mention the Maldives.
Carribean is much closer0 -
i have been to Caribbean the last 2 years early Feb, (Jamaica and Dominican Republic)
weather brilliant had great holidays, but for me personally i wouldnt want such a long flight for 1 week holiday0 -

plenty of people we spoke to in our hotel did travel for one week, just seems a lot of travelling to me for one weeks holiday0 -
Thailand. Perfect weather. We were in Bangkok in January this year and loved it. Was our first time in Asia but we'll definitely be returning!0

And now for something completely different: fly to Dallas or Houston, then do a road trip to Big Bend National Park.

I'm only suggesting an idea and I realise it's an unusual choice, so if it doesn't appeal then please just ignore it."Such an enormous country, you realize when you cross it" - Jack Kerouac0 -

Would you go all that way from Yarkshire for a week, especially without offering the OP an itinerary to follow? Bangkok is a gateway, and not somewhere to loiter for more than 3 nights.
I recommend Lindisfarne, more time on the ground.0
