Quadrant shower enclosure

hi all,

we are planning to redo our bathroom and amongst others install a shower enclosure.

We are looking for a 900mm Quadrant Frameless shower enclosure. It seems that you can find loads of brands on the internet. We are not sure which one(s) are the best in terms of durability and long life-span.

We saw this one at victoria plumb website with good product reviews, however checking on the net this company has a bad reputation (poor customer service and delivery problems).

We also saw another one at plumbworld - Hydrolux, but we are unsure whether this is cheap, not durable Chinese made.

We are still researching, but would appreciate any suggestions and comments.

My plumber recommended Plumbase and I've had a look online and a quick glance in the showroom. I'm confused though, several (not all) say they require a door pack, I'm unsure how much this costs extra.

Frameless enclosures need to be well constructed. I wold avoid anything from Internet sites and visit your local trade counter

Showerlux, merlyn , kohler daryl will all do decent frameless designs

considering I am no expert, how would I find out whether a certain product is well constructed??? Is there anything obvious I could check?

    Pay attention to hinges/slider mechanism

8mm glass is the minimum I would want so the enclosure does not rattle and feels sturdy

I'd agree, We've just bough one. Got told by a local plumbing place if you see one less than a couple of hundred pounds you are buying junk. In the end looks at some and Merlyn was the best at the price. Paid £300.

I would keep clear of a number of bathroom websites, like Victoria plumb etc, have a look through this website and you will see why. Keep well away from QS Supplies.

Go into a local plumbers merchants, they will be able to help you out. There is a load of crap out in the market place, go for one which looks sturdy and is not at a rock bottom price.

Plumbase is not a bad company, they have branches everywhere. Try places like PTS,City plumbing, Travis Perkins, a lot of them have bathroom showrooms in them.

It will be much better than buying off the net and you can at least see what you are buying. Even see some of the CH/Fire independent co's out there, a lot of us are now fitting other stuff too.

For my recent bathroom refit I chose this one http://www.bristan.com/epages/Bristan.sf/AU_en/?ObjectPath=/Shops/Bristan/Products/%22J%20Q31%20900%20S%22

It's incredibly sturdy & well made & very easy to clean, which was an important factor to me.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I am making a shortlist of UK based manufacturers, as this seems to be the way to go....

    Still researching...
