help with flights for 4 to Hong Kong

Hi, I've tried the 'beat my quote' with no luck, so thought I'd ask here. I need to go to Hong Kong with my 3 grown up kids to see my father, who ain't getting any younger and hasn't met them properly. I've got some backdated DLA that makes it all possible
The plan is to fly out on June 25th and come back July 25th, but it's a bit flexible, especially with the return flight...
We'd prefer to fly from Gatwick because there's a direct coach from Cornwall, where we live, but if there's a significant difference it's fine to go from elsewhere.
The cheapest I can find the flights for is £2311 return for all of us through travel supermarket, but I'm completely new to finding bargain flights. Can anyone recommend a cheaper flight? It was about £300 cheaper last week
I though malaysia airlines may be cheap at the moment, but going through their website, it's a lot more than the above. I just need the cheapest flight. I don't care where we stop over, how long for, or what kind of comfort we have on the plane. We'll be knackered when we arrive however we do it, and the less we spend on the flights the more fun we can have when we're there.
Help?!

I doubt you'll find it much cheaper than that, at least I don't see anything cheaper. There aren't any secret sites out there which offer cheap flights, what you find on comparison sites like Travel Supermarket is likely what everyone else is going to find.
Be careful if you buy from a 3rd party site, many of them are less than reputable with many complaints.0 -
£578 each is a good fare, I can't see anything as low as that around those dates. Emirates is showing £670 each
I looked at the Moneysupermarket results and it shows £577 but when you click through the fares start at £593 and, even though the search said Gatwick, the majority of flights shown are from Heathrow, the first Gatwick fare is £695
I would read the reviews of these third party sites before deciding whether to book with them0 -
Consider Air France from Exeter via Paris, but allow plenty of time to connect.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Have a look at Flybe flights to Helsinki and Finair to HK. My sister did Syd to Man last year for my Dads funeral and she said it worked out the cheapest around. Finnair is big in Asia .
Have a look at some of the Europe airlines, Lufthansa,KLM,Alitalia, etc, something may pop up. Get flybe flights from a localish airport to connect.0 -
Thanks everyone for your help! It's good to know I wasn't losing out on ridiculously cheap flights, and there was some useful advice
I phoned a few ticket companies too, and Southall Travel found me a cancellation for a total of £2011.80 which I'm very happy with. They've got terrible reviews, and I wouldn't be surprised if every bargain is a 'cancellation' or something similar, but I ignored their pressurising enough to check a few things out and make sure I felt I was doing the right thing.
I'm not too fussed about comfort, and I'll just have to make sure nothing goes wrong, as it sounds like they're difficult about any changes. And I'll buy insurance from a third party.
I'm now extremely excited about our trip to Hong Kong. And on the way back there's an overnight stop over in Delhi, which I'm also looking forward to!0 -
Getting return flights to Hong Kong from the UK for less than £600 is pretty good. We try and go at least once a year and so we know what we like to pay ie £600ish. You just missed out on BA, Virgin, Cathay Pacific and KLM sales as they all had them in the past month for about 3-5 days.
We were lucky and managed to get Air France (they are in partnership with KLM) via Paris in November for just over £500 each which is a bargain and that is including flights from Edinburgh.
You have an awesome time there in June/July though it will be very humid. And remember to obtain Octopus cards once you get there for public transport.Wins in 2015
Kettle Chips, Cambridge Satchel Bag, Tixs to Sound Of Music UK Tour, Name on a bench, Hotel Chocolat Eggs, Cuddly Dog, Stabilo pens, Samsung Galaxy Tab S, LG G Flex 2 phone, Gramofon, Lunch Meal For Two at La Tasca, Lunch For Two at Handmade Burger Company, £30 Gourmet Burger Kitchen Voucher, Canon Ixus Camera0 -

Good price even with the India visa costs on top0 -
Did they mention the visa ?
Would you need it if you just remained in transit.0 -

I believe you can bypass the transit visa if remaining in the transit area - if leaving the airport transit area a "transit visa" would be required - currently £66.50 each0
