Its up to you to prove the product should have lasted longer as its 16 months old . You would need an independent report to prove your point .
Cost to you is £30 at present .0 -
I would expect it to last a lot longer than 16 months but I guess it is just tough luck once out of warranty. I have had my digi camera for around 13 years now with no problems yet."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

Is anybody going to explain how working within the law, and agreeing to send something to a professional for evaluation is "arrogance"?0

You sound as if you work for JL. the arrogance I mentioned was the manager's arrogance - a person's arrogance. No need to be like that in my opinion. Wonder what the top man might say, maybe I should ask him.0

Go for it.
I just love the "you must work for xx" line, never fails to dis-appoint.
Its over 6 months old, it is up to YOU to prove it was inherently faulty.
Personally Id be snapping their arm off if they were contributing so much to the repair.0 -

You haven't explained though in what way was he being arrogant? From what you have said he did what would have been expected of an employee or did you want him to dress up and tell comic tales and be a "goodwill jester"?0 -
I bought a Panasonic TZ30 16 months ago and hardly used it.
I should note I'm not a technican, nor do I have an engineering or repair background but...
I used to work in camera retail and one of the situations that cropped up more than you would expect was people bringing camcorders back that either were just in or just out of warranty absolutely hopping mad and do know what they all said?
"I've hardly used this", or "I've got this out to use it for a holiday", etc., meaning the equipment had been bought, taken home, switched on, probably played about with for a day or so and then boxed up for months on end.
I was told by a colleague who dealt with the repairers that it was a regular occurrence and happened because rubbish could build up on some of the or they could oxidise a little and it needed the battery current running through it to keep it all working properly and stop that build up. The machines have been constructed to be used, not kept in a box.
I don't know whether it's true or not but it's a possibility as you have described virtually the same situation.
Little moral for everyone, if you buy the electronics, use them! They'll thank you for it!0 -
Where was it stored?
Was it Stored with the silicon pouches?
Was it kept in a warm dry place, but away from direct heat?
Was it thrown at the bottom of a wardrobe against a cold outside wall?
Did you take the Batteries out of it, prior to Storing?
Lots of issues that can affect the workings of a high precision product like a camera. You should have been told to get an independent report of your own. JL have dealt with you more than fairly. I would take their offer.0 -
Have you emailed Panasonic CS? They may offer a goodwill repair.0
